How about the opposite effect? Does refusing to believe that the medicine will work cause a decrease on the effectiveness of the drug?

My Dr tried a placebo on me when he didn't believe that cortisone shots helped with my post nasal drip. He thought it was in my head so he told me I was getting a cortisone shot. It usually starts working in 3 days but after a week I went back and told him it didn't work, that is when he told me it was a placebo and he thought it was in my head.

Placebos don't work on me. I have the opposite effect because I'm so cynical/skeptical. Even if it's the real drug I'll be saying "it's not doing anything."

The placebo affect is not mind over matter at all. It's mind over mind.  Placebos won't fix a broken leg. It won't make someone who has a tumor to not need surgery. It will just make them feel a little better. And this is usually only temporary.

Now, as a person that believes in spirits (ghosts if you'd like) and healing and so forth, I would like to know where you stand on the matter. I believe that every person is/has a soul, and that the body is only a shell/tool to exist in this realm to be able to communicate and interact with this dimension. The reason we that believe in such things know that the Placebo effect works is that you want it to work so by thinking you use that pill or whatever it might be, you practice a bit of self-healing, through wishful thinking. There is a lot more I'd like to mention, but i would like to know where others down here in the comments think about this as well.

If not everyone responds to placebo, then we should conduct research to find out why and how, and if it is possible to enhance a persons *placebo potential* (i.e., _test to see if training people to enter meditative or non-ordinary states of consciousness makes a difference_)
