In this video, a new player asked me to play a game with him. He is from Belgium. He played both tennis and padel in Belgium. He had only played pickleball five times. How did he do? Watch and find out.

5:05 Rory question. Is his serve legal? Asking because I used to do one similar but people said illegal to hit DOWN on the serve. I see he comes back up AFTER he makes contact but is that legal? Great play for a beginner obviously. What level are YOU ranked? You may have said and I missed it.

Rory- you hit some nice backhand angle dinks shots early in the game. I was hoping to see more of those cross court dink rallies but they were rare. Nice playing between you and partner. Very well done.

Rory, although you’re getting some haters from the last couple videos, I want to give you props for the new direction - critiquing your own matches and not focusing on players’ levels. Knowing your opponent’s level does not make you a better pickleball player. Learning from mistakes does. In the last video, questions like why were their lobs so effective and what could you have done differently to defend them? Or in this case, what did Ben do to make Michelle pop up so often and when she managed no to, how did she?

Addressing these questions help. Looking forward to seeing more like this. 🙏🏼

The new guy did a nice job with the third shot drops considering he is very new to the game. I would be interested in seeing him play full court singles where the drops would be rare and I could see his tennis skills come into play from the backcourt.

He did very well. Not that its surprising padel and tennis are very similar, so he has tons of racquet experience. I think I'd be more surprised if he did NOT do well. Haha

Rory loved getting to watch you play. Pay no attention to the haters on your play. From playing table tennis, tennis, and now pickleball I know that there are certain players that play an awkward but EFFECTIVE style of play. They are not smooth and athletic like in their motions and often look choppy and almost off-beat in their steps and rythym. HOWEVER they are extremely difficult to play against because you never know how to track their shots. Timing is sort of "herky jerkey" as we used to say. Now I dont know enough about the game to rank players level and I'm curious what yours I can assure viewers that its probably alot higher than he may appear in this video. 1. He's playing in more of a teaching/helping role with a beginner and 2. This awkward but highly effective style of play is often hard to judge skill level until youre getting your a$$ beat and realize....this guys good!

He did really well. If he switches to a topspin serve with more speed instead of that slice, he will be even better. The slice only works on beginners that don't anticipate how far the ball will move sideways.
