Featured is rare color footage of an American destroyer providing fire support for Marines during the Battle of Iwo Jima day 2. Thank you to those who helped identify this vessel. If you have any additional information about this clip, please share.
-Update: I am nearly certain that this is the Robert H. Smith Class Destroyer/minelayer Henry A. Wiley, DD-749/DM-29. The ship was initially configured as a destroyer and later converted to a minelayer.
Armament consists of:
6 × 5 in (127 mm)/38 cal. guns (the classic 5" -38 mounts)
12 × 40 mm Bofors AA guns (2 × 4, 2 × 2)[1]
11 × 20 mm Oerlikon AA guns
2 × Depth charge tracks
4 × K-gun depth charge projectors
80 × mines

That might be a Sumner class rather than a Fletcher.

Two turrets forward, one aft. I'm fairly certain it's not a Fletcher.

Not sure if Gearings were out in number enough, soon enough to be at Iwo Jima.

So close that she is firing 40mm anti-aircraft guns at the Japanese? Are we seeing the tracers from rapid-fire guns?
