You should explain how to then create the miter you need. I’m sure plenty of people are still confused!

FYI- now that he created the temp fence at 45 degrees, if you need to cut a 73 degree angle, you would now set your saw to 28 degrees, and using the new 45 degree fence, you achieve the 73 degrees you need

I’m sure the cleanup after that is a real joy.

Alternately, you could clamp down a jig like that and save a TON of mess and extra work.

45degree temporary fence PLUS the normal angle of your saw.

Saw @30 + new fence @45 = cut 75 degrees.

Killer trick. Thanks for that. I also glue to my saw with hot glue. Easy to remove with alcohol or heat gun and putty knife.

For everyone confused, Tamar at 3x3Custom - Tamar, has a video dedicated to this exact trick from 4mths back called "Acute angles on a miter saw". It's super helpful and will definitely clear up some things for y'all. I'm sure Matt saw this video as well 😎. I first learned this trick from Richard at Finish Carpentry TV when he did a video on this about 3-5yrs ago, which is where and when I first learned this trick. Both videos are detailed and pretty straight forward. Anyways, hope either video helps someone

No need for glue, your Dewalt miter saw came with a clamp just for work like this. There’s a port for the clamp on either side. Get a 2nd one (they’re cheap) if you need to hold down jigs on both sides simultaneously. They just swing out of the way when not in use. Now you don’t have super glue all over your saw’s table 👍

I just clamp my framing square to the fence next to the blade and cut the slight angles with material against it parallel to the blade (sticking out towards you) no glueing and angles are easy to work out...it's written on angle guage

Good idea. The saw manufacturer should include a removable part like that. Neat. Thanks.

This is genius. Thanks, I usually mark it but it gets very tricky and is not always accurate

Good tip. I was eyeballing my cuts after drawing the line on the lumber, but this is far superior and faster.
