Exactly same thing happened with me, when a sub-inspector tried to make me a criminal of a case where I am not even aware of the case. The police threatened me to arrest and beat me. They interrogated with me for 2 days . Even though the IPS officer ordered the sub-inspector to release me as soon as possible.

I give you a scenario- where police know a person has committed murder and he has told police about the place where he hid the knife used in crime, but he bribes the police, now police will make another person sign a confession on blank page, now police will show that they recovered the knife used in murder with the help of confession by the innocent person and it will be admissible, because that confession lead to the discovery of the weapon used in crime 😅

Everyone inspired by American content -
1. You can't "invoke the 5th".
2. Your words in the presence of police can't be "used against you".
3. Indian Police can beat you up with, in most cases, no consequence at all.

Do as they say. Avoid getting beaten up or harrrassed. Your statements, confessions and acknowledgements to the police can be retracted in court later.

As per section 162 of the crpc any statement or confession made to the police cannot be used for any purpose in any trial or inquiry.. any statement made to the police is not admissible as evidence.
