Does Adam Savage plan to do a build with his smaller lathe? Does he prefer packages to be dropped off or mailed to the cave? How much does being in San Francisco influence Adam's creative endeavors, and what tips do Adam have for someone living in a “bland” city? Adam...I sold a car yesterday to "THE" Chief Engineer of the Black Hawk and geeked out with him waiting on Finance to do his paperwork. His dad was one of the Nasa Engineers that got the Apollo 13 crew back to earth. He loved my mentality of a "Maker" which I explained that you were where I got that from. That is when he told me what a huge fan of yours he was. All that to tell you the Chief Engineer of our country's Black Hawks is a big fan of yours. I thought you would find that cool.

This definitely isn’t the first time a fan has shown up at Adams door! I know because back in the early 2000s when GPS’s and iPhones were becoming commonplace my family didn’t think it was weird to just drop by the myth busters studios. I was a kid at the time so we made little cards and dropped them through the mail slot in the front door. Soon after we had an Adam sighting and I remember opening the door of my dad’s sketchy beat up white truck and yelling “I’m a huge fan!!” To which Adam sped off faster on his bike(very reasonably). After we got home we ended up writing another letter saying “hey sorry we showed up at your front door we didn’t mean to scare you” and we got an amazing autograph back from the whole mythbusters cast. Proud to say that I’ve since become quite the maker and theater person! Thanks for all your work Adam!

People need to recognize the fact that celebrities are not their friends. Celebrities like Adam are nice people and they celebrate & appreciate their fans BUT Adam isn't your friend. As much as he has shared a lot of details about his life, we are still strangers to him and people need to accept that.

Adam gives a very honest, respectful but to the point way of dealing with overbearing fans :)

Robin Williams, for all of his movies, employed the local homeless on his movies, The Fisher King being a great example esp. since that's one of the main storylines in the film. Legend.

Hi, is that Alameda bomb disposal? Yeah, it's Adam. No, this isn't a mythbusters episode.

Until I spent a lot of time on social media, I had no idea how many people were irrationally and murderously full of hate. I can totally understand how celebrities would be freaked out by packages.

Every once in a while a YouTuber with a certain amount of subscribers or more will need to have the talk with their followers.

This is that talk.

I know how you feel about arriving in SF. The very day my wife and I landed in Vancouver I looked at her and said "We're never leaving" and she agreed wholeheartedly. 13 years, two kids and countless friends and we still love this place. Plus, West Coast Best Coast!!

I feel like I have heard a lot about fans crossing fairly obvious boundaries recently. Social media has broken people’s minds.

Adam, I've been to San Francisco twice and have to say I've never experienced another city so in love with creativity. The street artists, the vendors, the painters, the actors, and the musicians are all amazing. There is a vibe there I'll never forget. It truly is a beautiful city.

Years ago I worked as a vfx artist on a high profile science fiction TV show. I was friendly with some of the cast and I can tell you most of them had at least one absolutely chilling story about fans who went too far, tracking down their home addresses etc. One incident in particular with an obsessed fan caused mayhem in the production but as the story isn'tmine and has never been told publicly I'll leave it there. Suffice to say, Fandom is fine but keep a sense of perspective and don't be creepy.

There's not a lot of people in this world that will think of how others could perceive something innocent you do, even if you meant no harm (and even if you did it as a fan in this instance...)
How Adam brings it up is a great way to talk about it to _inform_ others of not doing it in the future. He's not belittling the person or talking out of anger, he's rational and understanding in his aversion to what the person did, & giving them the lesson that needs to be said.

I myself have been in one or maybe two circumstances where I "went a little overboard" with a friend or someone I cared deeply about because I didn't think of how they or anyone else would see my actions. I mean, why would I at the time? I was doing/saying it out of love and respect, or because I thought I was being nice.
But _the other party_ doesn't have that same feeling. It's not like a married couple who have deep feelings for one another. It's one sided affection, admiration, or even fascination.
And unfortunately (especially with the latter feeling, ) people may not realize that what they do, say, or even feel can be misconstrued as crossing a line, or negatively affecting others.

Yeah a package with electronic stuff taped to the door is a little bit scary. Especially for a celebrity. I wouldn't blame him for calling a bomb squad.

Fans, before you ever do ANYTHING related to some celebrity you like, ask yourself the following:
"without context, would I be okay with this being done to me or my loved ones?"
This single question can avoid a huge amount of issues.

The city of San Fransisco should put a clip of this on their website. I've never heard a more enticing pitch for living in a city.

One key thing that I think people who complain about SF and the Bay Area miss is that its always been great and always been horrible at the same time.

The current crime, drug abuse and homeless stuff you see on the news every night has always existed and has always been pretty rough (go back and watch Dirty Harry if you don't believe me). There have been cycles and waves in different eras, but its never been a paradise.

West Oakland and The Tenderloin didn't suddenly become bad neighborhoods because of any one politician.
