PODCAST REPLAY
There are many of us that have a different relationship with time. By that, some of us are what we call time blind. That is when we not only lose track of time but also have difficulty estimating how much time you might need to perform some task or project. You do Not have to have an ADHD diagnosis to experience being time blind. All brains can underestimate time for a whole host of reasons. But those with ADHD, do get most of the attention when it comes to the subject of time. In this podcast, Dave talks with Jaclyn Paul a writer and Ap developer. Jaclyn also runs the website ADHD Homestead where she writes about ADHD and all types of topics associated with it. Jaclyn wrote an article recently about how she combats her time blindness and Dave and Jaclyn discuss some of her techniques. Jaclyn and Dave discuss what being time blind looks like and what can happen when we completely lose track of time. And they chat about how sometimes being time blind can be humorous and how many times it can be frustrating. Jaclyn talks about some of her strategies she uses to reduce being time blind including one special technique that involves the kitchen and keeping on track. She also goes through some of her favorite techniques and methods including the Apple watch

I wear a slightly annoying keychain or lanyard on my belt loop and can’t take it off until I’ve done the thing...
for really important priority or urgent things I have a fingerless glove I have to put on whenever I take a break from working to remind me ... I can’t “just fit in” this one small thing right after my break before I get back to work.
It has a sticky label on the back that makes an annoying noise on the wool as my hand moves that says;
“I am the annoying glove of procrastination and taking a break” 😂 humour helps.
If i want to take it off i need to go back to my desk and start working ... but can procrastinate as much as i like... as long as i wear the irritating glove.

Leash myself now to the oven door handle so I don't walk away and forget I was cooking until I smell smoke and think my neighbor is burning his dinner next door so I wonder if I should call the fire department or if he is tending to it. I finally decide to go knock on his door so I pass through my kitchen to go out to his apartment and WoW!!! It's MY food that's burning....NOW I remember... I was cooking!! Dr tested me... it's not alzheimers/dimensia.

2nd grade:
Student: Mother, Mother see Spot. See Spot run. See Spot catch the ball ...
Me in my head: BALL!! I left my ball outside, Michelle's going to get it ... MICHELLE!! Michelle's going to get my toads in the gutter ...
Teacher: M---! Its your turn to read. I don't know what page they're on!!
Boxes put in my desk to keep me focused. Sent to Principal's office all the time. Threats to expel me from second grade.

Discalculia is seldom diagnosed and makes it even harder to calculate time.

I couldn't read an anolog click until I was 10 years old.

Labeled lazy, preferential learner, don't care, careless, laxidazical, stupid ...on and on.

Notes vanish into the walls and cabinets after 2 days.

Hours feel like minutes.

I immerse in things and lose time altogether.

Fired, pink-slipped, sent to HR, 90 day new employment probation period extended 3 times.

Tested: I have a 6 second attention span.

Finally disabled at 49 years old due to memory impairment and learning disabilities, hdhd/add inattentive type.

I'm a walking contradiction and liability.
Off the charts smart on one side and push me over a cliff stupid on the other side.

Thank you for sharing your own struggles. They are very validating.

You should make shorter videos for people with short attention spans.

Just try to be helpful, I was bored already by 1 minute introduction. Too much information, is very scattered. Straight to fact is so much better. Thank you for video I push through to 5 minutes
