What are Isotopes?

This chemistry video tutorial answers the question - what are isotopes? Isotopes are substances that are composed of the same element but consist of different mass numbers and number of neutrons. They share the same atomic number and therefore the same number of protons. This video contains plenty of examples and practice problems associated with isotopes and writing the atomic symbol for it.

Thanks to you, I'm definitely learning. Now i'm in an internal battle of my purpose of going to school when I'm learning here AND ALSO I'M DOUBTING IF MY TEACHER IS LAZY OR HAS A POOR TEACHING SKILLS OR SHE JUST LEARNED IT TOO :/

Bless you!! I have been stuck on my chem homework for hours and came upon this video in desperation! I had no idea about anything you discussed before you explained it and I ended up getting all but one right on your quiz at the end. Thank you soooo much! I have a chance at passing my test! :) :)

man you are saving me in my online class... I learn best in in-person classes, but I have to work full-time and can't do in-person classes. Online classes are kicking my ass bc it's like I can't absorb anything. your videos are saving my grade AND me. thank you for making it to where I understand it, you're a lifesaver <3 <3 <3

I literally love you, you makes chemistry so easy for me to understand. Sometimes the professor over complicates things but god bless you. Keep uploading until I'm finished being a premed pls :(

😪 You should have been there for me 20 years ago! Your clarity would have put my former teacher to shame and he had a doctorate in chemistry. Keep up the great work.

• isotopes have different mass number (the number at the top)
• But same atomic number (the number at the bottom) they share the same number of protons
• if they are different elements their is no isotopes
• atomic number represent the protons and electrons
• the number of protons and electrons are equal to each other
• mass number - atomic number =neutrons
• the reason why the mass number are different because the number of neutrons are different.
• nuclear properties are different but chemical properties are the same
•isotopes are always composed of the same element
• if they share the same atomic number it means that they are isotopes
