“Degreasers” don’t remove anodizing. Dish soap is a degreaser. Sodium Hydroxide removes anodizing which is a chemical in Easy Off and drain cleaners.

Great video. Another method uses rust remover and it will take the anodizing off in 10-15 minutes without scrubbing and won't discolor or corrode the aluminum

Lightly using a brass bristle brush should remove the left over anadization in the recesses and threads.

I use lye. And dilute it in water. Than let the aluminum parts completely shink into the solution. Wait about one or two minutes remove after the color completely gone from the surface and rinse it using clean water.
You can also use liquid dish washer to to wash it.
In my experience... I don't need to polish it as long as i didn't keep in in the solution too long. The key is rinse immediately after the color is gone.

2 points.  The parts will always need to be rebuffed, they will dull real quick without a clear coat. The shocks will not work smoothly for long, inside the shock will tarnish like the outside. The anodising keeps the surface smooth. Just buy silver shocks from day one if you can.

"anodizer" is the equipment that applies the anodize, or a company that does it, the coating is aluminum oxide (yes, aluminum does rust) that's dyed for color

for polishing use a power drill with a polish head on it and polish grease, saves a lot of time

It is possible to remove anodization from aluminum sheet

hey if you use a polishing bit for a Dremel or drill it will take way less time and the soft Dremel polishing bit will work in a drill if don't have a rotatory tool

does this etch the aluminum surface? I mean can the chemical damage the aluminum surface?

You really need a few other items. rubber gloves, the kind you get when you are washing dishes or cleaning toilets preferably. You also need some baking soda mixed in water and some baking soda in the box in case you do get some on your skin. I got easier off on my skin while cleaning my oven. I did have gloves on and I did have a long sleeve Jean jacket on. Some easy off guy in between my sleeve and the rubber glove and I didn’t notice it. It was on there for a while and all of a sudden I felt burning in that area. I immediately knew what happened and ran into my shower I watched my skin rinse off much like the analyzation you are describing in your video. Always be aware that you do not get this on your skin and take every precaution to make sure it doesn’t happen. You should also have baking soda and water available to neutralize the acid. Just a few simple hints to protect your skin.

Thanks for the Video. Have been wanting to 'un-pink' my Sakura D3 with some chrome bling-bling.  Well, maybe not chrome but polished up silver looking aluminum.  lol

What about de- anodizing threaded areas w/o compromising their dimensions ?

Will it start to corrode after a while

Do you have to repolish

A lot easier and faster to use sewer pipe cleaner (100% Sodium Hydroxide) crystals. Mix 1/2 cup with 2 quarts of warm water and your anodized layer will melt off. Scrub parts with fresh water and Degreaser, then spray the parts thoroughly with distilled water.
