So CDs are basically more advanced versions of vinyl records

incorrect. 0s and 1s are not determined by pits and lands, but rather by the change from a pit to land or vise versa. A change is 1, no change is 0

I am of the age when the compact disc and disc players came to the market. The CD and the CD player were a Revolution in recorded music and playback.

I had a subscription to what was IMO the best English language hifi magazine around at the time. It was SOUND Canada magazine. When as a teen I received the Dec. 82 issue where they received and editorialized the first Sony CD player the CDP -101... It blew my teenage hifi fan mind.... I so badly wanted one🥰. But at like $1500 CDN. There was no way on God's green earth that my parents were going to buy me one 😂

Thankfully I only had to wait until June 1984, when from own employment I saved to buy my first CD player. It was a Philips CD-101. A cool top loader that when I brought it home and connected it to my hi-fi with zeal, I was full of anticipation.

The first CD I bought that same day was Andrew Powell and the Philharmonia Orchestra, plays the Best of the Alan Parsons Project.

Popping open the top load door, seeing that then stunning CDM-1 swing arm laser transport, plopping the CD in it, closing the top door and pushing play. Seconds later out of pure silence came bellowing the stunning music... Nothing I ever heard before was like that.💿🎶

The CD player also came with a free sampler disc from Polygram. So I lucked out with two CD's. For a few weeks before I could afford to add to my CD collection I played these two discs over and over.😃

As a hi-fi buff the CD and the CD player was the most incredible addition and change to how we recorded, purchased and played our music.

Long live the Digital Audio, Compact Disc. Thank you Sony/Philips for co-partnering to bring us this product.😎👍

Pretty fucking weird that we can produce music with 1’s and 0’s

That part isn’t clicking in my head. How is the computer knowing how to transfer 1’s and 0’s into the songs we know??? And are each song just previously transcribed to its own 1001101011001….. for the computer to then read??? 😂

The weird thing is that the fabrication of a cd is very similar to that of a vinyl record.
