It was his choice to put 0 effort into learning the language he promised to learn.

They are both too immature to be married

Honestly he keeps saying it's not fair to him when he doesn't know what is going on but kept her in thr dark about the dog and keeps his family in the dark about the move.

He doesn't like consequences and just wants to avoid anyone having an issue with his behavior

James has no business being married🤦‍♂️.

How is he going to thrive if he can't be bothered to learn the language

I learned Greek and Icelandic out of boredom. I’m 33, for a woman you “love” 4 years is enough and just shows how little he respects and cares.

She is tired. He asked her to explain, then talked as if he understood the conversation, then got an attitude when he didn't. She was trying to translate, and her English isn't 💯. Shit he could learn the basics of her language. He was so wrong. She did her best. He wouldn't let her explain to him till later. She's frustrated. Lean the language, dude.

If he had kept his promise to her father & learnt Indonesian, he would have understood.

Is no one gonna talk abt the fact that Tata DID lie about saying she contributed to the convo when she really only relayed back and forth what her father and James were saying? Maybe he "pushed" her but I don't know why she's feeling "pushed" in a convo SHE wanted to rush into. She spent all that time faking an illness to convince her partner to leave everything behind but she feels "pushed" ??? James should've just learned Indonesian like he promised he would ages ago, but Tata played this entire convo like a toddler which is really odd because her husband always gives her what she wants. I get the frustration with James, I do, he seems very annoying, but Tata literally instigates situations just to cry about it to the camera later

I dont think James understand how hard it is to be the one translating back and fwd on a convo that is stressful to you while trying to add your own comments to the conversation….. specially since her English is pretty good but you can tell that she still struggles with it a little. And she is a polyglot!

Maybe he'd understand how hard it is to translate from one language to the other if he would have taken the time to learn Indonesian like he said he would 5 years ago. How many brains does he think she has for her to think about what to say to her father, in the right way to say it so that he understands what she's trying to say, then take that, translate it to Indonesian then in that half a second when he responds translate that back to English and then somehow formulate an answer back to English and Indonesia, I would have freaked out crying too it's called an overload of the brain, she's short circuited out. And screw him for not even taking the effort to understand that. She's not a computer she can't just input output no problem at all.
Side note, why didn't they get a computer translator thing, or an app or something

Can we talk about the fact that he MADE HER NOT TELL ANYONE THEY WERE MOVING?! And then he expects to move in with their parents and work in their business with no idea of how much money they could earn if they did! Not to mention that he abandoned HIS FAMILY BUSINESS. He just didn’t want to have tough conversations so he left like a coward. But if they simply talked to their families BEFORE leaving they could have talked about money, debts and lifestyle. He also deprived her of getting to say goodbye properly to all the friends she made while living in the USA. I also don’t think they should have left if he had debt he couldn’t pay for. The average monthly income in Indonesia is $280-$330 dollars. How is he going to pay $700 a month living there? Even if they get money from her family business it’s just profits coming out of her parent’s pockets so either way they’re just living off them!

Hearing the info that Tata was 22 and James was 28 when they got together explains so much about their relationship. She had been an adult for a handful of years and raised in a culture which may not have been accepting of her dating before adulthood. James was nearing 30 and likely had more experience than her in both adulthood and relationships. They're both emotionally immature and don't seem to be in a space which would allow for mutual growth.

She reminds me a lot of myself when I was in my reactive abuse phase of dating my narcissistic ex. Where I was completely volatile and crying at any little thing because of years of built up frustration from dating someone who never apologizes, acknowledges emotions, or feels remorse for what he did to me. And James is playing the role of my ex well too, always has to be right and when I snap and do ANYTHINGWRONG, any legitimate issues I bring up are now void because I did ONE THING WRONG. Now I gotta focus on apologizing and making up for my mistake and he is off scott free.

I may be misremembering, but I don't think James has even mentioned directly to her about not wanting kids anymore (and she heard about it from a friend), so this is something weighing heavily on Tata that James doesn't even know she knows about. I do think it explains some of her reactivity, cuz her parents keep mentioning kids

James is a classic manipulator and a bully.
Tata has every right to be frustrated with him.
He never bothered to learn the language in five years, so it's his own fault that he doesn't understand. No one else's.

Given that he has such a victim mentality, and never takes responsibility for his own actions, I'm at a loss to imagine that he could ever have been the so called higher functioning of the two.

He's a liar, by his own admission, and extremely immature.

He's taking charity from her very kind family, but doesn't think he needs to hold up his side of the deal.

He's a selfish creep.

“I don’t understand the language! This isn’t fair to me!” This wouldn’t be a problem if he only did what he was supposed to do (learn the language) 5 years ago

1. Seeing how "frequently" they fight, it makes me wonder how is it they've managed to be together for 5 years.
2. Started wondering if there's any scene in which James takes accountability and doesn't use someone else as the main reason for doing something (or not doing it). Like, maybe he says he's moving to Indonesia to be with Tata, meanwhile, the real reason behind the move is that he doesn't want to work in the family business anymore. Just saying...
3. The real story made me realize I also used to do that to prove how "valuable" I was. Obviously, It just triggered my anxiety. Don't recommend it.
