MINECRAFT 1.20 IRON FARM TUTORIAL | New, Easy, Efficient

Minecraft 1.20 is here and with a new update I've decided to design a brand new improved iron farm! This iron farm is the first major update to my iron farm design since I initially designed this thing in either 1.17 or minecraft 1.18. This Iron farm will work in Minecraft 1.20.4! The new design does not need any nametags and is actually more efficient and compact then the old design. This is for Minecraft Java edition. Unfortunately this is not a Minecraft Bedrock Edition Iron farm. what tutorial would you like next?!

Hey, I found some issues with the farm and I figured out an easy solution to it. if you add a top slab in the gap between the villager and the zombies, it allows the villager to sleep for a few seconds before being able to see the zombie again and it fixed the farm for me. I think the issue was if they kept seeing the zombie non stop they wouldn't be able to sleep and therefore wouldn't be able to spawn in golems but the top slab to half their vision of the zombie really helped.

If youre playing on 1.20.2, don't use the boat method to keep a zombie from despawning. It'll be able to kill and/or turn your villagers which I learned the hard way, and using the slab fix kills your rates entirely. I recommend just waiting until you find a name tag and skip the boat, or if you use vanilla tweaks you could grab the name tag crafting recipe pack.
Otherwise, the design of the farm works perfectly with a named zombie and no boat!

For those wondering as well as @kulatoid 's comment adding a slab to the top of the block in between helps with the new combat issue happening in 1.20.2, the zombie can now hit through the block on the right side, either making that villager a zombie or making it "disappear" so adding half slab to the top of those gaps in between will fix that issue as well. If not for all 3 sides do it at least for the side you push the glass into.

For those wondering why golems are spawning on the sides of the farm where the villagers are. Its because Wattles used glass for it which is a non spawnable block. If you want to stop this you can put half slabs, carpets or buttons on the top of it. This will force golems to spawn on the platform. You could also just use glass to make the walls.

Remember to place a lightning rod to protect the villagers from turning into witches during thunderstorms

I love the little changes that make this farm a tad bit more efficient as well as aesthetically pleasing. Go go Ironles

thanks dude. I have been struggling to get a working iron farm but this one works and I understand why the others weren't. I appreciate the help. Keep making these awesome tutorials!

Thank you for iterating on your previous version. It’s a very compact design compared to a lot of others while also providing a high volume of iron and poppies.

Thank you Wattles! I built my first iron farm following this tutorial and it works perfectly. I wound up having to remove the boat after one of my villagers got in it with the zombie on the wat to his chamber, so zombie is named Eddy now.

My favorite part is the new spawning platform. Great job, Farmles!

I started a SMP with friends a few days ago for 1.20 and the old design for this Iron Farm works excellent, I have stacks of iron BLOCKS in no time

Spawning issues and how to fix:
The villagers can constantly see the zombie, therefore are constantly in a state of terror, and need a moment to reset to spawn golems.
Two blocks below the block the zombie is sitting on, place a soulsand block and then water directly above it. The water should be in the spot where the zombie was sitting before. Place slabs on the BOTTOM half of the window. You will need to Nametag the zombie to prevent despawning.
The zombie will bob up and down, in and out of the vision of the villagers' vision. They will be able to sleep briefly until the zombie pops into their vision. Works the same for the day, even if they stand on their beds. Fixed all issues I was having.
Also, move the killing platform at least 19 blocks below the block that the villagers/zombie are on to improve spawnrates.

Wattles, I always use your iron farm designs in my survival worlds, so thank you for that! They've always been some of my favorite farms. One suggestion: villagers check +/- 16 in all directions, and if they detect an iron golem, they will not re-summon for at least another 30 seconds. I would suggest building up (or down) enough such that while the iron golem is burning, it's head is more than 16 blocks below the villagers. I tried this in my survival world and was able to improve rates making this change alone.

wattles iron farm is always my goto for my survival world. Helps to drop sand off the side to see where your killing chamber needs to go so you don't have to build all the way down/up to match it up. :)

I adapted this funnel to work with my Bedrock village. The golems kept falling on the edges of the lava pool frame, so I built the walls all the way up with glass in front so I can watch them falling. My village is also slightly larger than the spawn area, so I added additional walls and slabs to make that space unspawnable as the golems will spawn on slabs and glass blocks in their spawn radius. That worked better than trying to control the flow of water in a larger space. I like the aesthetic of the waterless golem waterfall better than other Bedrock builds I saw, so thanks for this!
