the James Bond franchise is DEAD.

🎬 In this FilmSpeak video essay, we discuss why the James Bond franchise is dead after Amazon officially got creative control of the series from EON.

The James Bond franchise is officially dead. With Amazon’s acquisition of MGM, and now the acquisition of creative control, the tech giant is now in charge of the future of 007, sidelining longtime stewards Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson of EON Productions. What was once a prestigious, carefully crafted franchise built on quality over quantity is now primed for mass production, as Amazon inevitably milks the IP for all it’s worth.

Expect an endless churn of Bond-related content—frequent, formulaic films, a SPECTRE spinoff series, a young James Bond prequel, maybe even a Moneypenny show. The franchise that once prided itself on high standards and long gaps between films for quality assurance is about to become just another assembly-line blockbuster brand.

This marks the end of Bond as we know it. Any artistic integrity left in big-budget filmmaking dies with Amazon’s control of 007.

How do you feel about Amazon/MGM gaining creative control over James Bond?🍸 Is this the end of the series or are you actually...optimistic? Comment below!💥

Genuinely heartbroken by the news. James Bond has meant so much to me, and often been something I lean on in tough times. Whatever Amazon does we will always have 25 films, which whilst not perfect, are all pretty special in their own right.

Not excited for the inevitable James Bond meets Jack Ryan miniseries from the people that brought you Rings of Power?

One thing to note here is that the James Bond character will enter public domain relatively soon anyway (2035). So we will probably see a lot more adaptations and interpretations similar to Sherlock Holmes.

Heart broken and furious. Nothing is sacred anymore. EON, Everything Or Nothing... I guess it's nothing. Rest in peace 007.

I feel exactly the same mate, I always felt reassured in the knowledge we had EON and the Broccoli family holding firm against outside influences, sadly with the merger a couple years ago...I felt it was only a matter of time, and seems once Michael stepped down/retired...she didnt have the strength /will to keep up that fight & resolve, a sad day....I mourn this franchise I love so much!.... RIP James Bond 1962-2025

The ending of No Time To Die just became prophetic. We have enough JB movies, and nothing will top what has already been done.

James Bond's being taken over by someone who looks like a real life Bond villain. I'm at a loss for words.

The way things have panned out with Bond, I'm less surprised that they killed him off in No Time To Die

In retrospect, I owe Elliot Carver an apology, so accurate. With Bezos in charge I’m sure the next villain James will take down will be… an IRS agent? Head of the CDC? 🤦

Been a Bond fan since 1967. The franchise, and god how I hate that word, was in dire strife in 69, 74, 81, 85, 89, 02 and needed to adapt to remain in anyway relevant - and they succeeded each time. While I'm more than happy to rewatch the 25 movies we have, I have no problem with someone else taking a fresh look to keep the character a part of our popular culture.

It needs to rest...at least until British Culture heals itself.

I am surprised about this! Sounds like no time to die is basically going to mark the true end of the franchise.
(Before whatever Amazon does)

This is the equivalent of Disney purchasing Star Wars...and now look what happened to that franchise.

One step closer to a world where the entire entertainment industry is owned by two companies

It ended with 'Skyfall' in my book. The last 2 films floundered aimlessly and had only a few good sections.
A series done by people like the creators of Andor (as an example) could reignite the Bond spark.
