My Favorite Action Camera for Vlogging in 2023

I have had several people ask me what camera I am using for Vlogging this summer as I travel. Surprisingly the camera I have been using most is the DJI Action 2. I love it for vlogging because is small and lightweight. The magnetic mount system makes it easy to change to different configurations to capture my adventures. The removable camera module is perfect for POV shots when you don't want a bigger and bulkier camera to get in the way. In addition, the audio that is captured directly from the camera when not using an external microphone is quite good. As for a microphone I am using the DJI Wireless Mic, it is in my opinion one of the best wireless mics available and works beautifully with the DJI Action 2. The overall experience has been great for vlogging and for those that want to enjoy the moment and not be bogged down with gear it is a great choice.

I love that Action 2 and I agree with you, it's just such a convenient camera for vlogging and daylife usecase. It's small, quite straight forward software speaking, and very versatile. I use it for my travel vlogs (walking, bike...) and FPV session. As you said, the video quality may not reach the GoPro 11, but the convenientness of it makes me love it. The magnetic mount makes it very easy to change configuration, from POV walking to Facecam speaking, to POV motorbiking and so on... You cannot do that fast with a GoPro. You said it, the Osmo Action 3 also has a magnetic mount but the fact that the Action 2 is smaller makes it more relevant. They even updated it to add Gyro data a few months ago!
I hope DJI will come back with this form factor with the DJI Action 4 or 5.

I don't do a lot of POV type of video, so I never really considered this camera for it's small size. But I lot of people do love the Action 2, and I'm glad it has been useful to you as your primary vlogging camera. Great video Shawn, and thanks for sharing.

I love my Action 2. But. As a cyclist, I’d love to see a full function remote control that I could mount on say handlebars with ON/OFF and RECORD/STOP buttons. This remote would need to remain paired and active … am I dreaming of the impossible?

decent sound from your (I assume) dji microphone. I myself am waiting for the dji pocket 3, if it ever comes.

I used to have it but battery life was poor for my needs. I switched to the osmo action 3 for it's absurd battery life. Works great for motorcycle dash cam on my helmet. Zero complaints.

Action 2 was the replacement of discontinued GP Sessions. Fore me is the best Small Form Factor cameras out there for Mobile Video

Nice one! I'm into the Insta360x3. Mainly for the tinyplanet fun, but it works (in my limited experience) well as a regular camera. Connecting a DJI mic isn't great though. 🙂👍
