🩺ABOUT DR. BREWER
Dr. Brewer started as an Emergency Doctor. After seeing too many preventable heart attacks, he went to Johns Hopkins to learn Preventive Medicine. While there, he went on to run the post-graduate training program (residency) in Preventive Medicine. From there, he made a career of practicing and managing preventive medicine and primary care clinics. His later role in this area was Chief Medical Officer for Premise, which has close to 1,000 primary care/prevention clinics. He was also the Chief Medical Officer for MDLIVE, the second largest telemedicine company. More recently, he founded PrevMed, a heart attack, and stroke prevention clinic.

At PrevMed, we focus on heart attack, stroke, and cognitive decline. We serve patients who have already experienced an event as well as those who have not developed a diagnosis or event. Dr. Brewer provides services via telemedicine. We find a lot of undiagnosed prediabetes or insulin resistance. Treating unrecognized risk factors like prediabetes allows reduction of risk and prevention of disease.

Yea Doc just had some blood work done, I'm 73 on no meds, exercise everyday, and my PCP said all my bloodwork looked good, I pointed out to him that my TRI/HDL ratio was 1.16, and as always it seemed to go in one ear and out the other, LOL!

Great information. All you need in just a few minutes.

In 2011 when I was on statins, my Trigs/HDL ratio was 7.45. My last measure was 1.47 (unstatined.) Doctor never spoke with me about that 7.45 ratio (didn't even calculate it - I went back and looked at old test results and calculated it.) My new doctor also has not mentioned that 1.47 ratio (which I also had to calculate myself.) Are PCPs just not aware, or do they just not believe in it? Seems like all they want to do is look at Total C and treat that.

Hi Dr Brewer, Great information. Educated myself so now understand what you are talking about (Well, a little more so).

Is it as simple as dividing one by the other?

I am a LMHR so l have high LDL and Apo B, but Trig/HDL Ratio is .73

My LDL is about 20 points above 'normal' range. My HDL is in normal range. My Triglycerides/HDL is .5. I'm on a low carb diet and do resistance training 6/days/week. My Dr. suggested statins, yet I am very concerned.

So, the video suggests triglycerides over hdl is your preference. Q1: Lower is better, correct? But is there a low ratio that is too low? Q2: What if the triglycerides/hdl is less than 2, but the apoB is high, say, around 120? In this scenario...what do you think? Thanks, a new subscriber here😊

I had bloodwork this week and got my best TG/HDL ratio ever: 0.65.

Over at Youtube channel Nutrition Made Simple they have completely discounted the ratio as a diagnostic tool. Its very difficult for the layperson to know who to trust.

Someone please help me....did he ever actually say which test was better?

A recent lipid panel showed my TG/HDL level to be 1.24 but I don't recall ever seeing an Apo B figure. I don't think either my cardiologist or PCP have ever ordered it. With my TG/HDL level do I need to worry about or ask for an Apo B test?

Are statins even effective at lowering apoB? It's my understanding that apoB is a combination of LDL and triglicerides. Statins reduce LDL but not, to my knowledge, triglicerides.

Being a suspicious sort, it sounds to me like the sudden appearance of apoB is a ploy by big pharma to increase statin sales by prescribing them to people with high triglicerides but normal LDL.

That being said, high triglicerides are a problem. But, to my knowledge, statins don't help much.

My last blood test showed a trig/hdl ratio of right about 1, and has fluctuated a little around 1 over the past few years.

Anybody know much about Zetia & Crestor combo? Good and bad studies.

I e been stuck in a circle, my apob is 95 on low carb HF diet mostly meat heavy. My trigs are 28 and HDL is 64, my ldl is 138 and Total C 198. My apob a1 is 143. I was recommended to take statins temporarily to help with ApoB and I said no. But I'm not sure if this is the wrong choice or I should just cut off Saturated fats a bit.

This made me look up my latest Tri HDL Ratio and it was 3.4.

I’m 23 and just did a blood work, my ratio is 1.47 and I think I need to lower it in the ranges of 0.5 to 1

My recent lipid panel has my TG/HDL ratio at .78. Even though my TC is 348 and my LDL is 231, I shouldn’t be too concerned, should I? I’m on a Ketogenic diet and refuse to take statins.

TG/HDL = 7
I’m pretty sure that he has really high apoB
