How AFKing in RuneScape Used To Get You Banned (OSRS)

So this means even if you just went downstairs to grab a sandwich in theory yes Jagex could ban you if you chose not to log out and finish cooking that inventory of lobsters. This is because you’re away from your computer and your character is still training. SO why did Jagex have such seemingly harsh rules and how exactly would they even enforce them. Well the answer is they couldn’t....

Thank you for clarifying this was not click bait after I clicked on it. Really added immersion.

Jagex: Makes a game that requires minimal input to train and make money
Also Jagex: Ban afkers

the old logout timer for RS was like a minute or something anyways, it was insane, you usually couldn't even pee and come back and still be logged in

Banned for grabbing a sandwich. The sandwich lady would not be happy...

lmao imagine having to use the bathroom urgently and you get banned because you were about to shit yourself and had to run to the bathroom ASAP.

The fun part was that in osrs the 6 hour log out timer wasn't added until months after nmz was released, or the year after that even I think. I can remember I was staying in nmz with guthans for days with a few sets on me and would never be logged out, just had to switch to a new set daily which I already had in my inventory.

It used to be a 12 hour log out time, and randoms wouldnt happen in banks or pvp worlds so that was the meta

Don't see why they banned players back in the day for AFKing.. They should of just changed it to not let the person AFK for so long in combat. Its not botting

I have 200M XP in Fishing, Mining, Range and Woodcutting. There's no way I would've sanely gotten any of those, even the other 120's I do have, without being AFK.

i remember when they said playing other video games while playing runescape was considered botting or something like that

I have a old ban on my old account from 2007 for "power leveling" afk training at bandits... when it was really popular back then.

FYI some ways of training can still get you banned in RS3. For example I was once banned (around a year ago) for 24 hours for doing 1-click agility training in Prif (it is the method when you only click in 1 spot and you can train like that for hours, don't even look at the screen just click/tap keyboard). Ban was not appealable so until this day I have no clarity on what offence i did exactly.

I AFKed at Monks to 60 defence, and one of the recommended combat training methods on most help websites for melee was guthans at bandits. Considering the amount of people that actually did it, and the extremely low reports of banning from it, and the lack verifying of those claiming it. It's quite easy to see it was an extremely low priority from JaGex and it was more scare tactics than anything else.

Back in the day I used a paperweight to turn the camera when I was leveling my fishing and would go play vice city, because the game would log you out after 60 seconds of inactivity

While you're "playing" our games.
Boy howdy do I love clicking once every 20 seconds on something.

I was actually scared of this rule back in the day. Logged out every time I got out of my chair
