Property 1: All the leading entries in each of the rows of the matrix are 1
Property 2: If a column contains a leading entry then all entries below that leading entry are zero
Property 3: In any consecutive non-zero rows, the leading entry in the upper row occurs to the left of the leading entry in the lower row
Property 4: All rows which consists entirely of zeroes appear at the bottom of the matrix

Just heads up, the first property only applies if you're doing a reduced row echelon form.

Isn't there another property stating that the zeros in each row should increase as we go down?

Sir, video was good....but the leading entries should be non zero for row echelon form and one for reduced row echelon form. And there is another property that row with all elements zero should be assigned at the bottom. But you didn't mention it.

Good explanation sir. On a side note has anyone told you that you sound like Mad Eye Moody from Harry Potter?

Isn't property 3 and 4 mere consequences of the 2nd property?

Is property 4 is very mandatory??
Is it necessary that every Echelon form of matrix should contain prop 4 too??

It was okay, but how can you mix up the 1st rule. I was so confused when I saw in other videos that they had different leading entries, not 1. Be more careful next time. It is non-zero entries, not only 1 for REF.

I just want to say .. thank u sir..for making it simple

for a matrix to be row echelon do we need to satisfy all of these 4 properties?

If the last row can have all zeros, doesn't that violate property 1 that says all the leading entries in each of the rows of the matrix are 1???

That's great video! it explains me really well.. I have hard time to understand the theory concept of the REF but this video explains the theory very clear. thank you so much for such a great video!

The first property is wrong. Leading entries have to be non zeros not necessarily 1.
