Echelon form of matrix

A matrix is said to be in echelon form if it follows these conditions
1. All the non zero rows of matrix ,if any precedes the zero rows.
2. The number of zero preceding the first non zero element in a row is less than the number of such zero in the succeeding row.
3.The first non zero element in a row is unity.

The first nonzero element in each row of an echelon matrix does not have to be equal to one (unity). The only requirement for the first nonzero element (the pivot element) is that it must be nonzero. It doesn't have to be equal to one.

Thanks Sir, but I believe Unity is not required for a matrix to be in echelon form. In the meantime, it could be any non-zero value.

sir u told to add in the upper triangle matrix only when there are negative numbers in the matrice but in this video when u added 7/2 and also u dint multiply the row 2 by 7/2 (if u are gonna explain can u pls tell if u are changing something )
