Paris Olympics Organisers 'Really Sorry' For 'Last Supper' As US Sponsor Pulls Out After Backlash

The opening ceremony for the 2024 Olympic Games has sparked a furious backlash from Christian viewers around the world. The 2024 Paris games organisers have apologised to Christian groups angered by a tableau in the Olympic Games opening ceremony. The tableau had parodied Leonardo Da Vinci's famous 'The Last Supper' painting.
The segment resembled the biblical scene of Jesus Christ and his apostles sharing a last meal before crucifixion. It featured drag queens, a transgender model and a naked singer who represented the Greek god of wine Dionysus. The parody drew sharp criticism from the Catholic Church and the religious right.

If Anne Descamps and Thomas Jolly are the best that France has to offer in terms of creative genius, then it no longer deserves to be seen as a fashion and cultural centre. The Paris Olympics will be remembered as the 'clown' Olympics and the one that fostered division amongst cultures and nations. Macron owes the world an apology.

What about these young athletes who have spent SO MUCH PRECIOUS TIME training SO hard to make it to the Olympics??!! The thing most infuriating to me is that this artistic director, Jolly, is so selfish, he basically stole the platform from the OLYMPICS & made it all about himself & his agenda!! He said he wanted to show inclusivity. Guess he didn’t get the message that ALL the countries participating with athletes of all religions, races, beliefs & sexual orientations IS inclusive!! The fact he used Christianity as his target was, of course, intentional & utterly disgraceful but the fact he apparently couldn’t care less about the athletes and the comraderie & friendships & healthy competition is pathetic. It’s not about him or gay or trans or religion or wokeness - which is what he wanted. It’s about the ATHLETES & their dedication, their work ethic, their pride in competing & representing their country. He missed the ball big time.

The French taxpayer has been landed with an enormous bill for this fiasco as sponsors are pulling out. The opening ceremony should have been a huge advertisement for the Parisian and French tourist industry and a huge benefit to the economy but is now an expensive disaster.

The whole thing was totally disjointed & it was completely idiotic to hold the event outside given the weather. You had to watch the slow ceremony along the Seine through rain soaked cameras, you could hear the rain in audio, the Olympic flag was upside down, they mixed up South Korea with North Korea and the can can dancers were not in sync. A lack of French celebrities & music eg David Guetta, Jean-Michel Jarre (Oxygène) with the fireworks, no French accordion music, no Stéphane Grapelli music, no French children singing. A lack of French celebrities eg Marion Cotillard, Catherine Deneuvre, Brigitte Bardot and with famous French athletes at the sidelines. After 4 hours, nobody cared about who the flame carrying guy was. What we were left with was a combination of Ru Paul’s drag race and the Eurovision Song Contest. To top it off, they managed to offend the Christian population of 2.38bn people. They hired an inexperienced director, Thomas Jolly, who was more concerned with political ideology than doing his job.

In Japan, whites and blacks each make up less than 1% of the population, but they appeared at the opening ceremony of the Tokyo Olympics.
Where were the Asians, who make up 15% of France, and the Arabs, who make up 10%?
