Simple does not equal reliable. I think these machines were more reliable than ones done in the past since from this perspective they are built with a more sturdy structure, better materials, and they seem to be a little less compact than previous years as well. I'm also getting the vibe that they have a wider margin of success. I could be reading it wrong.
