I would say Expand and Exterminate is a Tower Defense game myself. :)

Would like to make my own city and base builder games, but haven't a clue where I'd look to learn how to make AI for NPC villagers, where they'd take the most suitable job available, work unless needs are critical or off the clock, fulfill lowest need, etc.

Kudos to Orbital Potato for compiling these, my one and only little nitpick was the missing chapters, but the timestamps and links are in the description so that nitpick is really nitpicking on a nit!
Got to go through again and add to my wishlist the few I'm missing and interested in, there's probably a couple of games that gets resurrected from the ignore pile on Orbital Potato's recommendations, but I have to check to be sure while I'm sure I remember most of the games in here.

Thronefall was fun. It was easy to learn, but hard to master... specially for the flying enemies.

I think basebuilders and RPGs suffer from the same issue. Which is that you can add elements of them to just about any game. (Which can be a good or bad thing depending on preference and implementation.)

The question then becomes, should you consider a game with management / base building / RPG elements as part of the management / base building / RPG genre...
Where is the line.
