Real time strategy games are certainly not dead, but they aren’t doing stellar either. Here are new and upcoming RTS and base building games coming out in 2022 and 2023 with release dates. Some have DEMOs or playtest versions to try, and are keeping the RTS genre alive, preventing its often talked about “death”. From the AAA titles like Company of Heroes 3 and Homeworld 3, hype trains like Manor Lords and Falling Frontier to outsiders like Ratten Reich and Beyond All Reason. Real time strategy games are certainly not dead, and neither are their cousins the real time tactical games, but they aren’t doing stellar either.

I don't think I ever watched a gaming video and found so many games I haven't heard of before. I've always loved a good RTS. If only a fraction of these are good, it'll be awesmoe!

As a person who grew up with rts games, this gives me alot of euphoria seeing a multitude of devs taking classics as inspirations in these passion projects

I can only hope Homeworld 3 captures the feeling of the older games. That was really the main selling point of that franchise.

It's too bad Command and Conquer gave up making good games. It's sad, really.

Great to see the RTS genre is still going so strong! So many fantastic looking games!

Was playing Terminator Resistance today and thought "I wonder if this universe would work as an RTS". I feel like the moderate success of the Starship troopers RTS was what got this project the go ahead.

Sanctuary is the one I'm really hoping for, waiting for SupCom that's brought up to a fully-modern format. I love grand-scale RTSs, where being able to obsessively 120 APM kite a single unit to win a game goes out the window, and everything just turns into smashing two massive armies into each other. In multiplayer, it's not as frustrating to be outplayed because it's usually some strategic choice you made minutes ago that caused your issues, not someone out-tryharding you; and in singleplayer, you can and SHOULD build a big hulk-smash army and enjoy the spectacle.

All fingers and toes crossed that Homeworld 3 accomplishes what it's set out to do, the series is one of my favorites of all time... but Falling Frontier is the dark horse I've got my eye on. The hype for it isn't even close to what it should be, I think that one is going to surprise everyone.

YOU GOT A NEW SUBSCRIBER! My favorite PC game genre, REAL TIME STRATEGY! It is not enough for this genre to survive. This genre was the most played and the best genre during the late 90's and early 2000's. When you ask what game is the most played in the 90's and early 2000's it is the RTS genre including the Simulation Genre mostly City Building games like Sim City. RTS and Simulation are the most popular games before the MMO RPG and FPS exploded in popularity. RTS and Simulation and CRPG the party based RPG should become mainstream and the king of games again! RTS must become widely popular again. Many players had enough of the RPG craze now a days. Every game have a RPG mechanic in it mistaken by many people because it has RPG mechanics calling the game RPG. We need to bring back the other ALMOST DEAD GENRES that was popular before!

Tempest Rising looking very interesting.
Been a while since we had a new C&C style game that can hold a candle to the older C&C games(up to and including C&C3 TW and KW, imo the the peak of the franchise), Tempest RIsing has a long road ahead of it and it may fail to be anywhere as good, but I do see potential.

My favorite RTS a kid was Paraworld. A game that seems to have been forgotten. I can see why as it felt particularly niche with dinosaurs. Anyways, good video! (C&C Generals was after that and most modern game recently is Northgard)

I wish Legend of the Galactic Heroes would get a strategy game.

Dorf RTS reminds me a little of the Brazilian RTS "Outlive", with its proportionately larger buildings and the post-apocalyptic vibe.

Purple war does looks rather interesting to say the least. It does gives out the vibes of classic Warcraft. And i am really curious too to see how the stargate will play out too.
But i feel like you are right a bit on the previous games that has set the scale a bit too high, and want to say this: We gotta give these games a proper chance first, before we compare them to it. Like seriously, the whole deal will show how good they are, the moment we really test them out. The big titles are great, but they are forgotten from their "owners" and left them to die slowly in life support. So i think we should give the new titles a chance to blossom to something new, as long ofcourse the devs of these titles do take the right course too, and create things for us to enjoy and play, to give us a reason to support them, and not put endless monetization and locked content to pay to win. if they do that, then yeah, they can say goodbye to their "hard work"

Note: Homewold 3 is BBI (Black Bird Interactive). Relic were created by co-founders of BBI before they formed BBI. Relic is now just a name managed by none original developers of Relic and remains just that.

Even though I am not interested in most games in the list, except manor lord, I still will like your video, because it is well presented, well structured, with the title of the game on the video and the timestamps are split perfectly. It allowed me to quickly skim through the video. Thanks!

The Command & Conquer franchise, Battle Realms, and Warcraft were my RTS bread and butter back when I was like 9 or 10 and we have a family computer than runs on Windows 7 with no graphics card or any other fancy bells and whistles, and were the only time I got to play is I sneak out of bed in around midnight just to play for a couple hours with the volume set 0 cuz of the Windows startup and logoff sounds waking the others.
