amen!!! There are so many fantastic non electronic means of communication - however, it is crucial that all concerned parties have a copy of the CEOI (whether formal or informal) so that they can understand the communication

My hubs has recently gotten into ham radio, not great for long distances, but short distances it’s great!

Great video Randy, the Romans, Chinese, Mongols, and natives' smoke signals...all used these techniques, an old SF teacher once told me, that without connection there is no order, he was right. I used Midland for combat and they make good stuff. All FOB was surrounded by kids, so they know where you going before you know 😎😎

The Baofeng radios are great, but without a repeater, in the mountains, it will be hit or miss (like most handhelds). Baofeng are cheap though, and you can buy an interface from baofeng, that will turn two of their handelds into a cheap easily moveable repeater and can be used with bigger long-range antennas to increase your range (or you can just use already established local repeaters, if they're still up and running in a SHTF situation). You should also be aware that you may not be able to transmit, using the baofeng radios with its standard antenna setup, from inside your vehicle, depending on how new your vehicle is, the electronics inside will interfere.

A respectful criticism: just giving the name brand of a product is not much help, a model number would be great or even a link to the model. Plus, holding up a black box (Baofeng) and saying you don't understand how to set it up is no help at all. Why not have the person you mentioned who does know there to explain it and give model number?
Anyone can do a search and see the different types of comm. But what are the best and their pros and cons? Have you personally tried any? They all seemed to be in their original package.
