Never forget when they launched a new 4x4 in South Africa in a very remote location. Travelled to a lodge in really hectic terrain. Convoy leader would radio instructions for various bits of the journey including four wheel drive on, diff locks on or off and various other serious off roading instructions. Then got to lodge and watched the cook drive in with his 1990s Corolla having driven the exact same road. And said he does it every day 😂

I have a 5 door landcruiser VX from new in April 2000 it’s done 250, 000 miles and apart from tyres batteries etc it’s had a recon alternator and has just had all discs replaced for the first time. Just an incredible vehicle 👍👍

I saw one of these parked on my local high street 2 weeks ago and, unlike any new car from the last 2 years, I stopped and took a photo. Magnificent thing.

I LIKED the mix of Morocco off-road use and UK highway footage.

HM, great video...I am in America and I purchased the Land Cruiser last summer. Mine has a mild hybrid, and it's light on power but not terribly. Here we can get a 2-tone paint in the version you tested, with the square headlights, which I chose. And in the US it is about $70k which is a great price compared to other options. I went from an X5 to this and I don;t see myself going back, I really like it. Thanks for the review!

We’ve had a 2000 2wd Toyota pickup for farm/general use from new. Put weight in it and it’ll go most places. I’ve had Porsches etc which are great but the keeper is the pickup.
I’ll buy one of these used in 5yrs when interest has waned, I’ll no doubt love it and it’ll see me out.
Magnificent!

With all of the speed restrictions floods and Pot holes we constantly have to live with in the UK sounds like the Perfect Vehicle 🎉👍

Thumbs up for not wanting Big Brother knowing what I’m doing. I’m with you Harry.

Wow, That Toyota's really got some brass ones! Now it's time for a bigger lump. Here in the Canadian rockies it could do well as we have plenty of the rough stuff to traverse. Thanks for sharing Harry, always look forward to whatever you bring to the table.

That 2.8 litre 4 pot turbo diesel will still be chugging along, churning out huge clouds of soot long after the Defender’s 6 pot has been recycled into drinks cans

I have the US version of the old 150 Prado - the Lexus GX460. While it's slow, thirsty, and handles like a pig on roller skates, it has a certain charm in its absolute bank-vault quality. Every switch, button and knob works as it should, it has 165, 000 miles and doesn't squeak or rattle in the slightest. It always does whatever I ask of it, and all I need to do in return is basic maintenance. It is also smooth and quiet and superb on long drives, despite regular fuel stops. As someone who loves sporting cars and is surrounded by classics in my daily work, I love how honest and dependable it is. It's a mule in a fancy coat. I think these Land Cruisers are built to the same ethos - not perfect, but perfectly dependable.

As the owner of a 1975 Landcruiser, I can affirm that they are tough vehicles.

You hit the nail on the head when you said, if you want a car that's going to last forever buy a Land cruiser!!!❤😂. I drive a 168000 mile LC120 and it's brilliant !! I can get in and drive for 400 miles and still get out at the end and walk easily and not need a lie down I think the new one is gorgeous and looks much better than the previous one

I am so glad you have done this test. It was once said to me that a Landcruiser was the car you left to your grandchild. Some years ago I drove one in late December from Washington D.C. to Montreal (to please my mother in law!) when they had proper winter weather and it did not miss a step. But £5k road tax with all our potholes??

Down here is Australia, these are one of our most popular family cars. I’ve had two of the previous generations. They are not the best value or most powerful but they never let you down. Unlike the new Audi Q7 I had for 5 years.

From an Australian perspective, you hit the nail on the head regarding its target use - here they are the best selling 4x4 for a reason. Comfy and reliable for city, country, and bush

I think if you buy this, you’re clearly not on the market for a motorway cruiser. This screams 100% farm / agri… genuine off road use but 70k is about 35k too much with that market in mind. Most land rovers and all that spend life on school runs. 0-60 in that respect being totally pointless. Very well engineered, but if it proves to be as reliable as a Carina E… then this is the machine you want, that wont let you down! And the fact it’s been tested to destruction at every level… thats a thing of beauty and sings pure confidence in the product. Got to give Toyota credit here… outside of the price… this is a great machine!

I love the sound of a big diesel in a car like this. Also the lack of power can be easily sorted.
