For us childs of 2000's, this was our Endgame.

Gotta admire Barbossa's fearlessness. I guess after you've died and come back there's not much left to be afraid of.

Remember reading a comment on Youtube about this scene. The commenter mentioned that he was an experienced sailor and caught on to the fact that a Maelstrom is forming before it was shown in the film due to the fact that both sides have favorable wind.

Now THIS is masterful world building.

3:50 the two most feared ships in all of Pirate Lore in the heart of Calypso, fighting for presumably the end of all pirate life as they knew it. A battle more epic than endgame

What makes this scene even cooler is the fact that both of the most feared and dangerous captains are at the helm leading theyr ships into the maelstorm for the grand battle!

2:58 The part that fully solidified Barbossa’s bravery and courage. With his charisma and confidence, he’s willing to maneuver the Pearl deeper into the maelstrom to get even with the Dutchman.

0:33 I never knew that you could hear Calypso laughing here !!

And actually... The whole part between 0:33 and 0:53 is a chilling interaction of unbridled rage and fury between BOTH of the former lovers.
Jones unleashing a gutteral blood curdling scream to the sky.
Calypso responding with furious lightning strikes across the heavens.

It was my "Endgame" in 2007, such a masterpiece and stills one of the best final battles ever made.

4:16 I'm in love with this shot, the music and Barbossa's quote's symbolism "It be too late to alter course now, maties!" because this shot really means we have reached the climax of the trilogy. This is where it all was leading up to through out the story, two legends of the seas fighting it out to the death in the most perilous conditions. Two different worlds colliding and both The Dutchman and The Pearl almost having divine sea god status engaging in battle. There is no turning back after that moment, all you can do is laugh and enjoy the ride like Barbossa is.

Seeing this in theaters at 10 years old, this is where Pirates of the Caribbean ended for me. You cant get any better than killing the goddess of ths seas and battling one-on-one with Captain Jack Sparrow and Davy Jones, Will and Elizabeth marrying in the middle of a sea battle, in a maelstrom under a hurricane-force storm.

Even today in 2023 the visual effects are still as crisp as they were in 2007 *chef's kiss*

Calypso's fury creates a violent maelstrom that becomes the battlefield between the Black Pearl and the Flying Dutchman. Instead of aiding a particular side, her wrath is directed both at the pirate lords for imprisoning her and at Davy Jones for his betrayal.

Almost 20 years later and still is a milestone in cinema History!

Imagine being at the theater back then, watching this for the first time and having 3 movies of buildup leading to this peak moment.
First movie establishing the Black Pearl's background with the second establishing the Dutchman's.

Third movie.. Two cursed, legendary, almost mythical-like ships considered unsinkable going full sail at one another with full aggression, opening fire guns ablazing in a Goddess's maelstrom.

I wish I could appreciate this more when I was a kid watching this in the theater.

Before Endgame, Infinity war or even Iron Man. Us 2000s kids had this masterpiece of a Disney Finale. We didn't need a big CGI army vs big CGI army battle, we got 2 of the most iconic pirate ships battling it out in a stormy maelstrom. Even in 2024, this Trilogy stands out as one of the best Disney franchises in the past 30 years.

I love how the Brethren ships try and sail out to engage with the Flying Dutchman, but the Black Pearl sails right past them, as if she’s saying “I’ll handle this.”, because she’s the only one that can outmatch the Dutchman. The Dutchman has the firepower, but the Pearl has the wind in her back.
