Somet Brittish Guy: 'Lord Beckett, they have started to sing, sir.'
Lord Beckett:'Yes, now this can be a Disney movie!'

Hanging a child in the first four minutes of the film.
Bold move Disney, bold move.

Beckett's response, 'Finally', is amazing in setting him up as a villain. He's a mastermind, better even than Davy Jones at cutting a deal you think is to your advantage only to show he holds all the cards. Even the act of the pirates singing in desperate rebellion is all according to his plan.

I love how the soldiers back off in the moment when the sentenced ones start to sing and hit their feets in defiance on the ground. It gives me good chills.

This has to be the best beginning of all of the pirates of the Caribbean films!

"They've started to sing, sir."
"No shit. They're like 30 meters away."

Audiences: "Why the hell should we be rooting for the pirates instead of the Royal Navy?!"
*this scene opens the movie*
Audiences: "Never mind. Hoist the Colors!"

This scene is heartbreaking- especially when the kid starts to sing, but when the rest of them join in, I get absolute chills.

I'd probably be that one awkward guy who doesn't know the words to the song.

That opening! Back when Disney had balls

One of the strongest opening scenes ever. Really chilling, Disney doesn’t have the balls to do something like this anymore.

A lot of people would see this beginning as a sad and dark scene, but I see this as an empowering scene. These pirates and thieves are being sent to their deaths, however despite that, instead of crying and cowering, they sing out showing the colonials that they may kill and hang them. As many as they can capture, but hanging and killing them will not deprive them of their freedom. These people are free souls and not even death will silence their song.

That child embodies the attitude anyone should have if they face death. Don’t give the reaper the satisfaction of seeing you cry among the reaping hour.

Gotta admit when I saw this movie for the first time this scene creeped me out

This song is mentioned twice later in the movie.

Barbossa told Sao Feng:
"The song has been sung. The time is upon us. We must convene the Brethren Court. As one of the nine pirate lords you must honor the call."

Tia Dalma told Jack:
"The song has already been sung. The Brethren Court is called."

Dark, heartbreaking, and enthralling at once. Very bold for Disney for sure.

Did anyone else realize that he said "finally"? He was killing all of these innocent people in hopes of bringing the Brotherhood together!

What's truely horrifying about this scene is that Becket knows and understands the magic of his world. The song while a way to be defiant against becket also played into his hands as he wanted them to summon the court so he could wipe out any and all resistance against him

Phantom..
