This is Ike's remake. He and Jackie Brenston recorded the original in 1951...Chess 1458 ...and it was credited to Jackie Brenston and The Delta Cats. Also, this is not the first Rock & Roll song....though many claim this, and several other songs is the first R&R song. That distinction belongs to - Wild Bill Moore / We're Gonna Rock - 1948. It is also the song that gave birth to the moniker "Rock & Roll" (long before Alan Freed's bogus claim) as well as being the harbinger of rock and roll being called the "Devil's" music...since the record label number was Savoy 666. Hence, many DJ's refused to play it, and many would never even mention it.
