You NEVER give ANYONE your SS#, especially a cop. You can give your DL but only if it’s in a proper/legal situation.

NEVER give your SSN to anybody unless there’s a good reason. Giving it to a cop is not a good reason.

It feels so strange to give anyone a social#. A LOT of cops ask for this and people give it readily.

Now, finally, a REAL Auditor. That cop had no business asking anybody for their social security information and the auditor, if he was a passenger, did not have to provide any ID whatsoever.

In a traffic stop, only the driver is obligated to provide identification upon demand and that only means license, paperwork, name and address. Good job auditor!👍🏻👍🏻

They can't demand your ssn period and a passenger does not have to identify if they haven't committed a crime. No man or woman can legally be compelled to give there social security number to anyone.

And now some law enforcement agencies are 'asking' for social media contact info. They've gone as far as to put those fields on the contact form and train cops to believe they have to obtain all that info or the form isn't complete.

I was taught to not give the SSN ever. No one. Period!
What a clown..

A couple more minutes and the female driver would have volunteered to give the answer to the meaning of life and the location of Jimmy Hoffa to the trooper. 🤣🤣🤣

What can the officer legally do with a social security number? I'd be interested in an investigation to his traffic stops and identity theft.

There is never, ever, ever any reason to give a cop your SS#.

I wish I would have known that sooner. I was a passenger in a vehicle and handed over my ID when requested. I spent three days in jail on a false arrest! I got no apology, no call to my job explaining why! I'll never make that mistake again!!

Cell phone video has proven to be one of the best weapons for a citizen to have in their interactions with cops.

I worked for IRS for 25 years. Never give your Social Security Number to a cop....there is no reason for them to have it. Just ask: "Why ? Are you gonna do my taxes ?"

Wonder why he wants his social security number uh? Very suspicious

Asking for ID or definitely demanding ID is wrong. Yes they can ask...that's where is should stop if you refuse. This NEW thing of them asking you for your SS # though is off the charts. They shouldn't even have the right to ASK for that. And NOBODY other than Social security itself can demand your SS#....on job applications I leave it blank ALWAYS. When you get hired THEN I would give my SS# so they can deduct for SS. I'm not having my SS# sitting on 30 applications everywhere. And I'm certainly not giving it to some clown extorting money from me for a traffic infraction.

I had only just thought he looks like the stereotypical southern "Bubba cop" when the guy mentioned that they were in Kentucky! Nailed it! He reports back to Boss Hogg!

You do NOT need the passengers information, that is EVERY STATE... A passenger isn't driving the car, nobody doesn't give their SSN..
