That this was Judith's final role before her murder makes it that much sadder. I'm sure Burt came to say hello when they met again, 30 years later.

Burt recorded his lines later, so when doing this scene you can easily tell it was very hard for him. You can hear him choke back tears. Poor guy, poor Judith.

This innocent "Good bye Charlie, i love you" makes me tear each time, knowing it was her final record :(

I bet after recording this, Burt Reynolds had to walk outside or lean against a railing and take a moment to collect himself, given the circumstances of his co-star. This must've been the hardest thing for him to do. You can tell from his voice he's trying to hold back tears.

Just watched this movie for the first time in over 20 years after putting my own dog down. I forgot how much of a gem it was. Don Bluth was so far ahead of his time, making films with dark themes while Disney was struggling. My girl is up in heaven now with Charlie, celebrating her life and grooving out to that cool Gospel music.

The fact that she was also killed in her sleep, so this goodbye as she’s falling asleep makes it even harder to watch

My dad was one of the last persons that saw Judith alive, my dad was born in California just like her, both Judith and my dad lived in the same neighborhood and we're friends, my dad is 3 years younger than Judith, Judith was born in 1978 and my dad in 1981, when my dad entered Judith's death he cried more than ever but at least he is now happy of having meeted the best friend someone can ask for ever :)

This will always remind of the day I held my little dog as she died peacefully in my arms when I was 20. I had her ever since I was 5, she was a gift from my grandpa because I was lonely and desperately wanted a friend. She was my one and only best friend.

My dog passed away a week ago due to bowel cancer. He tried his best to survive. 2 days before he passed, he ate a lot and played like never before. Watching this, brings all of the tears. Goodbye munchy. Daddy will always love you. We'll meet in heaven my dear boy. Tell God that daddy tried his best to give you the best life.

1:24 *Man Burt Reynolds nailed the performance as Charlie❤😢*

*I can tell he’s trying to hold back tears because of what Judith Barsi went through from her father’s abuse*

Judith, may you rest in eternal peace. This was your final goodbye. A child didn’t deserve such a horrific fate….

Man this scene hits harder when you get older. I remember reading about Judith's death and then going back to watch it I cried at the goodbye scene so hard. I can tell during the line delivery Burt was holding back his tears during this scene and especially when I heard a line when he says, "I love you too." It's still a heartbreaking scene to watch and to feel sorry for Judith. Hope she and Burt are living the best life in heaven. 😢

This, Land Before Time, and Fox and The Hound were my childhood favorites and each time I watch them I can't hold back tears at all

3:33 I can tell that Burt Reynolds is starting to cry this was Judith Barsi’s final role😢😢❤

I think because Burt Reynolds recorded his lines later, him saying he was so very sorry was very likely ad lipped especially after he heard Judith was murdered and the director likely kept it in finding it a very touching and logical thing to say after Judith died.
