The USMC doctrine on CQB in an urban environment says that 3/4 total casualties is acceptable. War isn’t cute, fun, or something you take silly selfies while doing. A lot of people aren’t going to make it.

I’ll put it like this cod has taught me a lot of things and I know for a fact on veteran room clearing or CQB especially on old MW2 favela shit gets fucking out of hand quick. It’s how I expected it. Nothing goes to plan just like football. Once the play starts and shit don’t go to plan it’s all reactionary. That’s pretty much real CQB shit don’t go to plan all reactionary. Never really got what most people expected to see, real life isn’t like a video game. In all of these videos you barely ever even see what they’re shooting at and tunnel vision is eerily similar to the cameras pov. I’ve never been to war but growing up in America I’ve had to duck shots too many times to count and the level of confusion when a gun is fired is unlike anything else. Imagine that multiplied when a bomb goes off or a grenade explodes. Only way you live is by being calm lucky or mad enough to survive, all you can really do is not panic and try to get home. Whatever that might come with

Most soldiers I’ve talked to don’t enjoy being asked about war so I’ll just say this from my experience, training is useful, but focus is what makes the difference. Knowing fundamentals like what is cover vs concealment, angles, or how to shoot and clear malfunctions don’t matter if you panic. When the shots start flying get low and behind something solid, if you have to fight back make sure you can see them before they see you. Everything else is judgement that you gain from training and experience. That and shooting first

CQB is totally kinetic. Once you make that entry, its all about forward momentum. Clear the vectors ans space and keep pushing without letting up. It can be the most frightening, intense but totally adrenaline pumped part of wat. Clearing compounds in Afghanistan in Helmand were a breeze compared to basra in Iraq. Open roofed compounds where you can get proper eyes on prior to entry compared to bricks and mortar buildings with multiple arcs and floors with shit lighting was arse clenching.
