I just started an Etsy store however I have no reviews and no sales. Without reviews as you already know it’s hard to build that trust with customers. Do you think if I offered free shipping, a grand opening sale or said the 1st 10 orders were free of charge that that might entice people to buy from my store?

I have made sales but have never had reviews despite responding manually. Apart from sales, it's just my store or listings being favorited.

I got my first bad review yesterday. 😞 it still bothers me as I expected, but I responded to the review thanking them for the feedback anyways and letting them know that I had not made the description clear enough. Should we be responding privately instead so the review can be updated?

It’s my understanding that once the buyer puts in a review it cannot be changed. A FB sellers group that I follow talks about these scenarios and suggest sending the buyer a free product. If the complaint wasn’t my fault, there is no way I would reward the buyer. I’ll take the 1-2 star review and move on. Some reviews are positive but have a 2 star rating. Your strategy is interesting but it doesn’t guarantee the buyer will leave another review with a 5 star rating. My small business cannot support giving out free products.

Do not sell on Etsy. There is no protection for sellers returned items. Etsy team gave buyer a full refund and told the buyer no need to return the sellers bag back..So, buyer gets full refund and sellers item also. Etsy will not Acknowledge the wrong they did to the seller. All other sites like ebay, they have the buyer return the sellers item back before they get a refund. This is what Etsy should have done with the seller. This Etsy is so Unprofessional. They should be taken off the internet.
