WAYMO Autonomous truck pictures | Trucking Answers

These are photos of a Waymo Via autonomous truck that were submitted by an astute viewer. This truck was spotted in Oklahoma. If you see one, take some pictures! See if you can get inside and get some of those pictures. Talk to the driver. This driver said that the company doesn't even believe that these will be out in large numbers for 20 years. With all the radar, lidar, sonar, cameras, sensors and everything else I can believe it. If a rock hits them and knocks one out what will the truck do? We are some time from these taking over the roads of America the Beautiful.

Who does the pre and post trip? Who gets the ticket? Who calls the dispatcher when it is put out of service?

Wondering if you lean towards it if it will run off into the ditch to try to get away from you

I'm sure this technology is much more reliable than the exhaust regen system. What could go wrong?

I just want to know what the truck does on the interstate when it encounters a first responder standing in the middle of the highway. From what I see in the news it seems to be a toss up between "stop, " "swerve, " or "run the guy over." Also, what's to stop the local gang from boxing the truck in and forcing it to stop, then raiding the box? Also, what happens if the cargo catches fire, or somebody rams the DOT bumper, or the brakes freeze? Will we see driverless big rigs running down the road with a four-wheeler sideways against the front bumper? Oh and what about blowouts?

...and they could do 3 - 5 second public service ads that: show what a mess slow traffic in the left and center lanes causes, show the view from the inside of a car or truck of what pedestrians look like at night (barely visible), show what happens when a four wheeler decides to cut in front of a semi truck and then slows own, etc. You get the picture. 3 to 5 seconds is all it takes, why is this not happening??

I wonder how this would handle NY, "Signal Lost... Re-calculating... Warning Verticle Violation... Take Left Exit..." the entire time it was just going under 1 of the many overpasses.

Now we know what trucking companies have been saving all of their money for by not paying their drivers fairly 😃

Just think of all that extra natural resources needed to produce these trucks! There goes the clean bill.

Yeah I used to see them test driving the love's in alma, TX quite often. And I used to see them and another company driving south of Dallas on I45. And yes with trailers hooked. On occasion I've seen two trucks at the same time. Looks like they've updated their equipment in the last year.

As Hunter said, they are running I-10 Between Tucson and Phoenix in AZ. And there is a driver sitting in the driver's seat everytime. They are hauling a van trailer, loaded or not I don't know.
Just think of all the bugs hitting those sensors and cameras.

They run interstate 45 between Houston and DFW all the time.

I drive an old pre any emission truck. Over the years I’ve noticed that newer trucks are made to break down more often, how will the technology handle regens?

I see them all over I 10 around Tucson. I swear, one good chunk of a 2 liter Pepsi in any of its cameras and that sucker is going off the road.

It's blinding me with science 😆

Maybe one day trucking will become a work from home job like playing a video game driving a fleet of trucks simultaneously.

Why does the computer and sensors need a sleeper cab?
