Garter Snakes are some of the best pet snakes in my opinion. Here are plans for breeding my Thamnophis sirtalis parietalis and Thamnophis sirtalis sirtalis melanistic pet garter snakes. They have changed for this year! The genus Thamnophis should be more popular as pet snakes!

My Red-Sided and Plains Garter Snakes come from Don Belnap of Don's Garter Snakes:

My Melanistic Easter Garter Snakes come from The Odd Tinoir:

Hey Russ I don't know if you remember but several years back we were talking about gutter snakes on your channel and I mentioned that I had seen a Carter Snake with green stripes instead of yellow like emerald green really pronounced green and the red was subdued like a brown color now I'm trying to remember where I saw my noise up at summer camp of one year in the 70s Either it was a Chicopee Mass or it was in New Hampshire near Mount Minodok area of New Hampshire Peterborough NH So if you ever looking for one like that that's where you would have to search either eastern Massachusetts Chicopee Mass or southwestern New Hampshire near Peterborough. they are beautiful beautiful gardeners and they tend to eat toads and salamanders and worms and Whatnot. they've been in an evolutionary race with the salamators which are toxic to eat there have been people who have had coffee pot sitting around with a little bit of water in them near a campfire and had the salamator crawl into it and they made coffee the next morning and died by drinking this coffee because there was a boiled alive salamander I don't know what kind of salamander but it's one of the northeastern salamators like a red F or something like that and the guy died he didn't realize it was a dead salad in his coffee maker you know little little percolator thing he had And you put it on the fire it killed the salamander and the salamander released all those toxins. sad story but true. the toads of these snakes eat the eastern American toad is also slightly toxic from the milk glands or the glands on their back of their heads so if you ever touch one pick one up you need to wash your hands afterwards otherwise you love a nice little psychedelic trip. and as a kid we didn't know this so I used to handle them all the time pick them up they smear stuff on me you touch your eyes you touch your nose you touch your mouth then you have a nice little hallucinogenic trip.

That's a big red-sided garter! Do you know if the melanistic will get that big as well? Sorry about your loss; it's something I've heard about garters in general that they can pass without any warning. There aren't very many people that talk about their garter breeding so I'm looking forward to seeing more and seeing a litter of babies!

Good luck with your breeding project! Sucks that the melanistic were all males, but hope you have better luck this coming year! I am now torn between getting a pair of California red sided or melanistic in the future 😂
