Earth’s 2016 surface temperatures were the warmest since modern record-keeping began in 1880, according to independent analyses by NASA and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).

Globally-averaged temperatures in 2016 were 1.78 degrees Fahrenheit (0.99 degrees Celsius) warmer than the mid-20th century mean. This makes 2016 the third year in a row to set a new record for global average surface temperatures.

The 2016 temperatures continue a long-term warming trend, according to analyses by scientists at NASA’s Goddard Institute for Space Studies (GISS) in New York. NOAA scientists concur with the finding that 2016 was the warmest year on record based on separate, independent analyses of the data.

This color-coded map displays a progression of changing global surface temperatures anomalies from 1880 through 2016. The final frame represents global temperature anomalies averaged from 2012 through 2016 in degrees Celsius.

That this channel doesn't even have 4500 subscribers deeply saddens me.

In Montreal, Canada we're currently having the warmest January I've seen. It might turn out to be the warmest on record.

How on the Earth NASA measured the temperature in Patagonia in 1911?

I had no idea that in the early 1900's that it was warmer in Alaska than central America. Seriously, what exactly are these temps supposed to represent, how was data collected, and how has that data collection changed over the last century?

Why only g back to 1880? They have proxies going back much further, I guess that wouldnt be helpful to the regressive narrative.

looking at the comments it still amazes me how angry climate change deniers get at the mere notion of changing policies that could help the environment... I will never understand why they are so against the idea of clean air and water.

You can't measure the global temperature. There's regions of 1000s of miles without measuring devices, the South pole for example. On this video there's a big difference in the coloring but the temperature difference is below 1 degree annually. One could say the whole world became a hot desert the last 100 years. In Eastern Europe the temperature haven't made it above 1C for a month now. The world had warm periods and freezing periods to a bigger extent centuries before humans even existed.

Should one correlate this with the entry of the solar system into the high energy gas cloud?  If so, the change could be considered an expectation as THE ENTIRE SOLAR SYSTEM IS SHOWING THE ACTION OF HEATING.
