I changed both tires myself the last time I put two new tires on the front of my riding mower. It took me several hours to get both old tires off the rim, then used a big flat head screwdriver along with a spoon wrench to seal them back on the new rim. I will tell you this, next time I change the tires on that rider I will just pop the old ones off and take them to my mechanic who said he would mount the new tires for 20 dollars. Saves me about two hours of work and is well worth it!

The ratchet strap on the tire tire to seat the bead was a great idea! Thanks for the video bud.

I'm an ex-Class A mechanic and I've learned a few tricks.... not a good idea to heat the dust caps, they are only thin material and could warp. Instead either spray the sealing point with WD40 and let soak, or cover the cap with a rag, then sharply but gently tap around the edge of the cap with a small hammer or the edge of pliers to 'shock' the dirt loose, then take a medium to large channel lock pliers with a rag in the jaws, grab the cap firmly in the jaws (but don't squeeze) and twist it back and forth to loosen it, then pull towards yourself after it turns freely. For the clip, some are e-clips that can be eased off with a small flat screwdriver and some may need snap-ring pliers. To break the tire beads, don't pound your hands black and blue, just step on the edges of the tire, your weight will do the trick. Mechanics learn to save wear and tear on their bodies as well as how to work quickly.

Thanks! I like the positive energy and the silliness. And I’m gonna try to fix my tire now with the knowledge that I gained from your video. Keep up the good work!

Thanks, you inspired me to just try harder to get the tire on the rim. The strap trick is A+

Few suggestions
1.) Dust covers - Use pentraing oil and a rag with some large channel locks to GENTLY twist the cap back and forth to lossen it off, just don't squeeze hard or you will crush/bend it requiring its replacement.
2.) Snap rings - Rather than flat head screwdrivers, try pointy needle nose pliers tips or small punches or jewelry screwdrivers.
3.) Prying - When prying off tire beads, just step on them with a heavy boot to dislodge the bead and use a cresent wrench handle to pry off, as it's smooth. Screwdrivers can damage the bead intergrity causing leaks on your new tire and are wider as well, a pair works great and you can use a rubber mallet to help driver them around the rim if necessary

Thanks! I watched your video and it was easy peazy. I made a few adjustments but nothing major to speak of. You did a great job for a Do-it-yourselfer with improvised tools! 👍

Most online videos that make this job look easy, like this video, are dealing with 2 ply tires. 4 ply tires are a completely different beast... you'll need real tire irons and a lot more umph to get 4 ply tires off and on.

Had same issue this past week. Quickest way with least hassle was taking it to a tire store down the street along wit new tire. Presto changeo, done in .5 hr. And there are tire spoons for the DIYer vs screw drivers, if you are so declined!

I just changed an old, cracked tire on my dad's riding lawn mower. I used Dawn dish soap and water to seal the bead. And added air to seal the bead. Less hard work for my Portable Ryobi tire inflator to add air with the Valve stem core in. Now i'm going to see if it will still hold air.
One thing i like about the front tires on the riding lawn mower is easy to reseal the bead.

A little dish soap on the tire bead makes tire installation a hell of a lot easier !

Should we grease that axle end prior to putting the wheel and tire back on with a handful of grease???

It is MUCH easier to mount the new tire with some dish soap on the bead of the tire and on the :shoulder" of the rim. Soap on the bead helps it slid onto the rim much easier and on the shoulder of the rim to help the bead slide into place.
