Best video so far, this direction, less criticism of whoever whatever, more philosophical

I suppose the paradox is that the creative person is especially perfectionistic and self-critical to the point of self-sabotage, but they have those moments of liberation when they can create. And the key not only to being able to create but also to being able to live is self-acceptance.

I think the biggest lesson for all of us as we get older is to learn to be gentle with ourselves. To nurture ourselves. To love ourselves. It is a lifelong thing. I have preached it to my own healing clients many times, but often have not taken it to heart myself. Irony abounds.

My very sincere thanks to you Andy for addressing this issue. Nobody on YouTube talks about the psychology of creativity. And it is so vitally important!!
Please continue these conversations. For young and older creative folks to learn from…again.. Thank you

Thank you Andrew!
In an earlier life I was a psychologist. I don't really believe that what I said (or what you just have said) is the actual catalyst that helps. That's all just part of the Probably a necessary ingredient - but not the magic sauce. No - the magic lies in your voice, or your eyes or your caring (and that you dare pontificate)... This is not all powerful, but in letting the other maybe get better and maybe not - (and do listen, this is what I have experienced) - is what does the trick.
I really enjoyed your talk, and I enjoyed how you talked, and I enjoyed the accident with the phone and I regarded what you said as well meant mumbo-jumbo. That undoubtedly works for you - and maybe many of the other viewers. But in my opinion it was your "intention" (to help, to enlighten to describe, to suffer along with all the other sufferers) that worked.
In other words - a wonderful video. cheers.

Thanks for bringing this to light. My own history is frought with trauma and i did get counseling to break that cycle of which you speak. i hope this helps others who can't seem to find their way.

Just a small thank you, , it's not near enough, but this video may have changed my life!

And I mean that very literally, from really struggling with cleaning the house today (I have to, fire inspection) to feeling awesome, best I've felt in a very long time! I feel like nothing can stop me now!

(yeah, I'll try to keep that a bit in check, don't want to go manic instead :D)

Wow, I feel so affected by what've said on this video. I also find the child-parent metaphor/dialetic very helpful in analysing inner conflicts.

God bless you, Andy! Much love 🙏❤

Teaching is a performance art. Used to play in a band I named Stagefright, and when we started, I had it in truckloads, especially due to the fact that we only played out of fashion, original music. Teaching helped me get over this kind of anxiety, and my strife is to get my students happily out of it too.

One of your best Andy; you're now an adult. As for what comes after, well, nobody's come back to complain about it.

That was helpful and I'll leave it at that as I don't want to spend half an hour agonizing over the perfect sentence.

At the end you were describing something I had to do when doing a course of Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) - i.e. Radical Acceptance.

I had to acknowledge the trauma as something that I had no agency to prevent or change and then develop strategies to mitigate its effects. It helped me to limit rumination and self blame.

What DBT didn't do was help with my post trauma low self esteem or my social anxiety.

Playing music with friends helped with that.

Practicing mindfulness is another way of curing trauma. Watching negativity arise and pass away without judgement can, over time, dissolve 'the ball of doubt'. Not for everyone as it can feel like you're doing nothing - which in a way is exactly the point!

The issues you're addressing have affected my life immensely. Addiction to substances is a very common problem with creative people and I have gone through that nightmare. Your advice here could have saved me from a lot of misery had I known it when I was younger. I absolutely love your work. It really does verge on being art.

Thank you very much for this, Andy.
I have so often wanted to write that simple sentence to you but today I must.
Thank you for this and for the whole of what and how you dare to offer to us. It is brave. And fun. And wise. And helpful...it is many of the best things.
Thank you.
