How to Change Font Size in Gmail

Gmail comes with a default font size and font for all users. But there are several non-default font and font size options in Gmail. Here's how to change font and font size in Gmail:

This is for the most ignorant of users. What most of us appear to be here for is how to change the size of the font we see when READING incoming mail. This seems like something that should be possible in Gmail settings without the hassle of increasing the entire window or screen with CTRL+ and CTRL-

It doesnt work. for existing emails and you didn't tell them to save changes. cmon people!
