Something that I have experienced as being missing from today’s church services. We are so busy trying to “get the people in…” that we forget who we are there for. We aren’t in church just for ourselves, we are there to meet with God. To corporately worship him, to hear a message (hopefully from him) and to be restored. And in our time of worship we please God just as David did. Except I worry over what we are praising him with. Scripture says He inhabits the praises of his people. But my is He inhabiting them or are we just giving it our best shot and hoping to his the mark? I miss the church I use to attend when much of our praise came from the book of praises—Psalms. I have gone through an old bible and found so many of our praise choruses. I either underlined them or circled them. I should have counted them but I will say there were a lot. There were some sprinkled throughout scripture as well. I’m a baby boomer (makes me feel like I’m a stick of dynamite🧨!!) so I love rock and roll. And I’m not saying I don’t enjoy a good upbeat Christian song. But that isn’t what is being played in churches today! It doesn’t magnify the Lord (in my mind) and it just doesn’t feel like worship. It leaves me starving. Not for food but for a hunger to be able to join my brothers and sisters in Christ in lifting up the name of Jesus through our song. We each possess our own built in instruments—our voices. Wherever you are, whatever country you come from, use your instrument to praise the King of kings and the Lord of lords!
