Skim coat ceiling tips

In today's video Skim coating a ceiling tips and the new skip trowel texture has been applied to the skim coated ceiling. I'll show you all of the products, tools that I used to mix and apply the skim coat. I was a carpenter in residential construction 30 years ago, but I have worked in a different profession the past 25 years. Thus I am a little rusty and my experience is very 80s. I have a house with 70s popcorn ceilings. We are scraping the popcorn off and skim coating the ceilings to bring them more up to date. Your video was a great refresher and very helpful. Thanks.

Stumbled across your channel after removing painted popcorn ceiling in my living room, kitchen, breakfast area, and hallway (which was a PITA). I wanted a smooth level 5 finish so I studied your videos and watched some of them a bunch of times. Well after 2 full skim coats, sanding a bit, then priming, then covering some imperfections, sanding again, priming, covering the few remaining imperfections, sanding, priming the spots again, and finally 2 coats of paint I have finally completed the mission. I'm absolutely amazed at what I accomplished, everyone I've showed my ceiling to can't believe it, at first they think I hired a pro to do it for me. Looks clean and beautiful and I couldn't be any happier! Thanks for all your videos and the thousands of dollars I saved!! #DrywallTube

Your videos are a life saver! I scraped one hallways popcorn ceiling and figured I try skimming over the other hallway. I'm not sure what's easier but I think once I get more coats, skimming over the popcorn will probably look better once I'm done.

Would love to see a video on the hand technique you use to not make a line.

Thank you for this video. Nice and straight forward. I am a poor DIY-er, removing my own popcorn ceiling. They actually did a great job of taping when they made this house. So far it is the ONLY thing that they have done a great job of! Scraping was easy and the mess was minimal. I am really nervous about skim coating though. I am going to start in the closet and move outward in the back bedroom. Wish me luck and thanks again.

I'm a glass blower. Ive done my share of diy home projects but I've always been scared of drywall because it's really hard to hide imperfections. I'm about to skim coat over all the texture on my walls and ceilings. Thanks for helping build my confidence and all the tips to get it done

🔥So glad you put this series out, I am seriously going to be doing a lot of this real soon. We just bought a house at the end of last year and one of the major projects we have committed to is to turn all of the popcorn ceilings to flat painted ceilings so I have almost 1700 square ft to do. Ill be going back and watching the series over until I get it. I was super nervous about this project but now I understand and have the confidence to get it done. I am a drywaller but not much of taper, so I am looking forward to learning from you. I have a lot of projects coming up that will require me to learn how to tape.🔥👍👍💪 #drywalltube

Hi Paul. Been learning a lot from your videos. Have a customer wanting me to skim coat his 575 sq ft ceiling that currently has knockdown texture. He wants knockdown sprayed again. Someone attempted to patch and texture a few water damaged areas and did not come out well at all. My question is, is it possible to spray over existing knockdown texture? I may just skim the entire ceiling but only about half of it has bad patchwork. Wanted to get your thoughts on it. Thanks for all the great tips👍👍
