First Impressions of Jakarta 🇮🇩｜Kind Local Buys us Food 🤗

It's our first time in Jakarta and it won't be our last! We started the day visiting the National Monument, we were so lucky to see rehearsals for the upcoming parade for Independence Day! Then we got into a TUK TUK to go explore a near by Market 'Pasar Baru' to eat Indonesian street food. The highlight from the day happened when a local man bought our food for us!

We had an amazing time in Indonesia! We will definitely be back to explore all the beauty it has to offer 🤗

Cendol is a traditional Indonesian drink consisting of coconut milk, brown sugar and this drink is quite popular in Malaysia and Singapore. Pasar Baru Jakarta is the oldest shopping center in Jakarta, where there are Indian and Chinese communities, here is also famous for its legendary culinary delights and quality goods. Pecel is a traditional Javanese vegetarian culinary, apart from that there are also other vegetarian culinary delights in Indonesia such as Gado-gado, Ketoprak and others.

Fact about Monas (National Monument): The bronze flame structure was covered with 35 kg of gold leaf. Then, for the 50th anniversary of Indonesian independence in 1995, the gold leaf was reapplied and increased to 50 kg of gold.

That drink is cendol, originated from java. Rice flour with coconut milk and palm sugar. The dark green color comes from daun suji or dracaena angustifolia leaves often mistaken as daun pandan or Pandanus amaryllifolius.
