Marvel’s biggest fumble

I Do Know Nothing Reacts To:
This is by far the stupidest and needless over-correction I've witness in recent hollywood.
Why not just recast Kang? There are actors out there that I'm sure will do just fine. Why turn Doom into an Iron Man variant?
The whole thing is so frustrating.

They about to treat Quantumania like Pacific Rim 2😂😂😂

Honestly it sad how Kang got mistreated and shafted on 2023 yet started so strong in 2021.
He could've been so great.

Kang shouldve been recast with tropic thunder rdj if they wanted rdj back

The biggest fumble by Marvel was Quantumania. That movie was supposed to make us fear Kang, but it made him look like a joke. Ant Man should have never won and come back, because that was the only way to show that, if a weak Kang is so powerful, how powerful is the strongest Kang, the Kang prime who would be the main villain in Avengers 5.

The sad part is Kang couldve been written as a great villain as weve seen in the comics and animated series Avengers Earth's Mightiest Heroes Kang was a legitimately interesting villain and had a very intimidating aura to him yet had a good motivation. The build was there and regardless of what happened to Jonathan Majors, one of the biggest mistakes was putting him an Ant Man movie having him as a disposable villain despite how good Jonathan Majors was in the role

Given the MCU's style of humour becoming annoying, just imagine if Doom appears, announces his name and the superheroes just continue making fun of his name.

"Doctor Doom? Really? That's your name?"

I think we could have this Doom show up in Doomsday, every hero awaiting the arrival of a council of Kang’s. A recasted Scarlet Centurion comes threw a portal, a single Kang variant. He tries to get far away but is frozen with a green aura around him. Dr. Doom steps through a portal and kills Centurion and the heroes discover he killed the Council of Kang’s all by himself.

Accordioning to Variety, Marvel wanted to omit Kang for Doctor Doom the moment Quantumania underperformed at the box office. Jonathan Majors' arrest, trial and guilty verdict just made it really easy for Marvel to finalize the decision. Whether that always meant re-hiring Robert Downey Jr. and having him play Doctor Doom is something that I doubt was always in Kevin Feige's head because it's still the biggest safety net move ever.

Honestly, while I am fine with RDJ as Doom, I still wanted to see Kang. They just fumbled, like you told. Do you think Kang will appear in the Mutant era?

I’m a little confused. I love RDJ and I love Doctor Doom, but I have a problem. If Doom is Victor then why bring back RDJ. He’s a good actor but if he’s an already established and iconic character in the universe why bring him back? Or if he’s an alternate universe Tony then why not just make it superior iron man instead of doom. You’re erasing Doom’s backstory in poverty, his background in magic, his relationship with Reed, and a bunch more interesting things about Victor. If yalls like this decision then more power to you and I’m sure rdj will act his ass off I’m just a wee bit upset and I wanted to share my opinion. Also I think recasting Kang is a bad idea I don’t think people were that interested in him, but I just wanted someone else to play doom. Like Cillian Murphy or Giancarlo Espacito.

*Recast Rhodes for his appearance as War Machine* : 😀
*Recast General Ross for his one-film appearance as Red Hulk* : 😀
*Recast Kang, who was the focal point of two seasons of Loki, an army of Kang variants were shown in Quantumania, is the main villain of the entire saga and the instigator of Secret Wars* : "Why? Bringing back RDJ as Doctor Doom"

Kand was also intimidating in Season 2. Kang had too much potential

The worst part is Jonathan majors didn't need to go away and his accusations turned out to be false and now he's lost a huge role, this is so unfair

There were so many blunders in this decision it's unbelievable.

First, and I know people are gonna find this a hot take, but I think the reaction to what Jonathan Majors did was radically overblown by the media. He accidentally hurt his girlfriend's finger after she swiped his phone from out of his hand and chased him down a public street. Whatever. There are plenty of actors IN THE MCU who have done worse. Hell, RDJ has done worse! But for some reason (and I do suspect racism was a factor), he gets the boot. It was ridiculous.

Second, if they had to kick him out, they could have just recast him. There has never been a more perfect fictional set-up to recast an actor than the multiverse. They had the perfect excuse to just run with that idea. But no, Kang was a really interesting character who got ONE bad movie with incompetent writers, and all of a sudden the whole studio does a 180, even though everyone agreed that Kang was by far the best part of Ant-Man 3. This was a decision made by spineless executive chart-mongers who don't know how to read a room.

Third, if you're going to ditch Kang, at least be more transparent with how you're going to do it. Don't just announce Dr Doom out of nowhere at Comic Con and not give us any info on how this transfer is gonna work. You can't just switch your big main villain halfway through your story without explanation! It's horrendous storytelling and the lack of clarity annoys people.

Fourth, I'm sorry, but I'm still not down with RDJ as Doom, not because he isn't a great actor or couldn't do the role, but it just feels very wrong that the message we're sending is that the MCU literally cannot survive without RDJ. That's a terrible message to send, that one person is so important that everything literally collapses without them. That's not what superheroes are supposed to be about. Superheroes are supposed to be models for others to aspire to, not central pillars of a system that crumbles into oblivion the moment you take away the Sacred Column holding everything up. And more than that, it's terrible to give the audience the impression that your storytelling abilities are too weak to stand on their own without your golden star to grace it with his presence. That doesn't inspire confidence, it inspires doubt.

I really hope they come out with a statement clarifying precisely what they intend to do with Kang's character, because I hate this constant pivoting to Doom without explaining what they're gonna do with his storyline. They can't just drop it. Besides, I want to see more Kang. I want Doom, too, but Kang is a big enough and interesting enough character that he deserves his time in the spotlight first. This whole situation is baffling and irritating, and I just wish we had more transparency from the studio on what they're doing here.

Marvel needs to learn how to commit to their ideas. If people didn't like Kang, then give him another go-around with better writers. Don't chicken out and pull the whole rug out from under him just from one bad introduction. If people are sick of multiverse stuff, too bad, it's the multiverse saga, find a way to make it more approachable to people or just accept that some people are gonna get turned off. It doesn't matter how big your franchise is, you should NEVER aim to please everybody, because then you'll please nobody. And in my opinion, if this pivot is really happening and they are ditching Kang, then I'm done with the MCU, because I don't think they can salvage a decision like that. I can't get invested in a story where I know the whole second half of it is being rewritten on the fly and altered from what it's supposed to be. Terrible maneuvering from Marvel and Disney, and just a complete show of cowardice and insecurity in their own storytelling.

In Jonathan Majors contract it is stated that he was the only one who can play Kang

The ONLY good thing about RDJ Dr Doom is the sheer amount of meme material that will come from the character, way more than Kang could have ever produced
