The best way to stain a fence with a pump sprayer is to find one that is less expensive than a typical paint or stain sprayer. They typically have adjustable nozzles and can imitate the action of a more expensive sprayer specifically made for paint or stain.

1) Shake / stir the stain well making sure all settled pigment is mixed.
2) Pull up pour spout on can
3) Fill sprayer to 4 liters
4) Pump handle on sprayer to build pressure to spray
5) Adjust sprayer nozzle pattern
6) Spray stain on one section of fence
7) " Back Brush " to even out the stain

Our fence wood is cedar. Cedar is some of the best wood for an exterior fence. The application of fence stain helps preserve the wood and enhance the wood color and grain.
This is the final video in our fence build project. In previous videos we sank the posts in concrete, hung the boards horizontally, and built a fence gate.

Oh brother! I made the mistake of buying one of those pump sprayers. The fan pattern was horrendous, the coverage was horrendous, the overspray was horrendous, the product waste was horrendous for semi transparent stain, with the 2 gallons of semi transparent that I wasted I could have bought an electric sprayer that atomizers the transparent paint better! I liked your video for the algorithm, I’m just leaving my comment here for other people to see. Whatever you do, for the love Of God, do not get this handheld pump paint sprayer! With the amount of product your waste, you will be able to purchase a high volume low pressure HVLP, or something much better to spray with! Oh my gosh I am still traumatized by this horrendous experience I went through this afternoon.

I recommend a pump zero. It is a battery powered pump sprayer. No more manual pumping, constant 20psi no fluctuation of pressure at all

One question I have, did you have much over spray on the back side? I have a privacy fence with neighbors and I do not want to get the stain on their side of the fence.

Did you have to add water to your stain. I tried a regular pump sprayer like you're using and it won't come out properly, it just dribbles out in a stream. I've pumped it like crazy, and have played with the spray setting, and it's all the same.
