I took the supermarket flowers from the windowsill
Threw the day old tea from the cup
Packed up the photo album Matthew had made
Memories of a life that’s been loved

Took the get well soon cards and stuffed animals
Poured the old ginger beer down the sink
Dad always told me don’t you cry when you’re down
But mum there’s a tear every time that I blink

Oh I’m in pieces it’s tearing me up but I know
A heart that’s broke is a heart that’s been loved

So I’ll sing Hallelujah, you were an angel in the shape of my mum
When I fell down you’d be there holding me up
Spread your wings as you go
And when God takes you back
He’ll say Hallelujah, you’re home

I fluffed the pillows, made the beds, stacked the chairs up
Folded your nightgowns neatly in a case
John said he’d drive, then put his hand on my cheek
And wiped a tear from the side of my face

I hope that I see the world as you did cause I know
A life with love is a life that’s been lived
So I’ll sing Hallelujah, you were an angel in the shape of my mum
When I fell down you’d be there holding me up
Spread your wings as you go, when God takes you back
He’ll say Hallelujah, you’re home

Hallelujah, you were an angel in the shape of my mum
You got to see the person that I have become
Spread your wings and I know
That when God took you back, he said Hallelujah you’re home

"A heart that's broke is a heart that's been loved." I have no words for that.

'Supermarket Flowers' is about my grandmother, " he revealed. "She was in a hospital near my house where I was making the album so I saw her quite a lot while making the album and she passed away while I was in the studio. So that's my first reaction for anything that happens to me, good or bad, pick up a guitar." -ed sheeran

I cared for my mum for three years up until she passed. This was 8 years ago and not a day goes by where I don't wish she was still here. She was my hero.

My favorite line is definitely "You got to see the man I've become" it's just sad but happy at the same time that even though your grandma passed away at least she got to see her grandson succeed in life and the industry that he is in

For me "supermarket flowers" and "afire love" are two of the most emotional songs Ed has ever written. They are undescribably beautiful. Thank you so much for the great music you share with the world, Ed. ❤

The first time I heard this song (7 years ago) I knew I would play it at my Mom’s funeral. 4-21-2024 was the day it came true. It was perfect. Thanks Ed for the lovely tribute. 🩷 Rest in peace Mom ✝️🩷

Played this song as a final tribute at my mom's funeral. It was an absolutely perfect sendoff. So many people commented on the song choice, that it truly hit their heart strings. Thank you, Ed Sheeran

My mom died in a car accident when I was 3 years old. I was in the same car when the accident happened.
My aunt told me that they found me below the legs of my mom as if she tried to protect me in the last moment.

My aunt took care of me since then and adopted me. Now when I refer to "mom" I think of my aunt. I am grateful to be blessed with two moms in a life time.

Thank you for the song, Ed. I really appreciate it.

You know that someone has magic in them when they can write a song that both breaks and heals your heart at the same time.

Thank you for this song, Mr. Sheeran. I heard it the first time while preparing for my mom’s funeral. My brother Matthew suggested it. This song reminds me of the great blessing that she was.

My mom died on 03 March 2020 because of cancer. I do believe she is in peace now; she is the symbol of love, kindness, and light to me. We will move with you to tell the world how great you are. You will always be missed and remembered.

I Love You, MOM.
