The Melitta Coffee Filter Hack for Hario V60 (#2)

Run out of those specialized V60 filters? Can't find a local store that sells them? Your order from Amazon hasn't arrived yet? But you still want your pour over, right? Here's the temporary (or permanent) fix!

(I don't think it's as good a filter as the Hario V60 purpose built filters, but when none of the V60's are available to you, this method can and does work.)

Dude, that's so simple and such a life and money saver. Where I live I can get amazing Japanese made white Melitta filters for a really good price, but the same white v60's are 5 times more expensive! The only bad thing about this video is how dumb I now feel for not having worked this out myself. 👍

Did this and it works like a charm. I had a bunch of Melita filters but decided to use the Hario because it brews a much better cup of coffee. Hario filters are so expensive. Thank you! I will continue to use this method.

Thanks for sharing! The Melitta filters are much cheaper and available many more places than V60s .

Thanks very much. I've found myself in the situation and that's what I needed. Hario filters are way too expensive and harder to find than Melitta's.

Thank you, this is a lot more cost effective than Hario v60 02 filters.

I bought a v60 01 and much to my surprise it didn't even come with a single filter to get me started. I Googled a hack and found this. Thanks!
On a side note for anyone reading this, if you have a coffee shop near you, look at their website or call them. Many use Harios, sell them and the filters. I just discovered 3 of my local coffee shops sell the entire line.

I was going to buy hario filters or a stainless filter and then I found this video. Thanks my guy.

How do Melitta Basket Filters work with the V60?

It's Melitta, it fits Hario V60 and it looks in it like Chemex filter! xD

I don't understand the difference. Seems like the little red Melita plastic coffee thingy is the same as the little red Hario V60 thingy. Should be pretty much the same brewed end result, yes?

Hi. How long does it take to brew with Melitta filter? From my experience, it takes at least 45 seconds longer than Hario, and coffee gets more bitter as the brew time gets longer. I suppose Melitta’s permeability is lower and density is higher but I would also like to hear from you.

Maybe you could change the title to (#4) instead of 2? Melitas has a #2 and this title is confusing.

i just bought a Hario V60 #2 thinking it was the coolest thing ever without researching the price of the filters...man did you save me from regretting my purchase!! THANK YOU!...

imo James Hoffman should have at least mentioned how pricey the pricey are...

Confusing because the title says "#2" but in the video he appears to use a #4 filter.

Any specific reason for the #4 or is it what you had available? In my local grocery shop there's only #2 and #1

Do the Melitta filters result in strong cardboard aftertaste? Trader Joe's "no name" Melitta filters leave horrible aftertaste.
