In this step-by-step vocal processing tutorial, I use my favourite 3rd party plugins for vocal mixing, as well as some stock plugins that come with Ableton Live 11, and by the end, you’ll know how to mix vocals like a pro.

I’ll walk you through how to use vocal autotune, how to compress vocals, how to EQ vocals, and much, much more.

It doesn’t matter whether you use Ableton Live, Logic Pro, FL Studio, Cubase, Pro Tools - or any other Digital Audio Workstation - this vocal mixing chain will work for you, too.

I really love the fresh air plug-in effect, I'll buy it. I recently learned from the Disclosure guys the whisper trick that many singers use, that is to record the vocal whispering and put it under the sung vocal. The result seems similar to the fresh air plug-in effect.

The vocal was mediocre before the processing, the difference afterwards is huge! 🖤

To gain stage you need to adjust the source material (wav file) so it's about -12db to -16db. Ideally record around those levels. This allows the signal to hit your plugins at a good level. The CLA plugin is nice, I like to use a FET compressor on vocals first followed last in the chain with an Opto compressor.
