7 m/sec is for Projectiles. If you have thrust you can leave earth in any speed you want. even 1m/sec because the higher you go, the lower escape velocity will be. So with thrust you can go higher and higher until your speed and escape velocity will become same and you can get out to space

To get how far before it can reduce the speed? Does it need to maintain that speed across space? Or is this speed only get you to x-miles above earth and you’ll need more speed above x-miles above? At what point does the space craft gets pulled into another object’s gravity?

Greatest misconception of popular physics, once more propagated 🤦🏻‍♂️ the concept only makes sense for ballistic projectiles!!
