Older female architect here. Yes, architecture is still about 80% white and male. A lot of women get derailed because the process is so long, and overlaps with the years when a lot of people are thinking bout having children. It's still hard. Favorite historical female architect; Julia Morgan, known for designing the Hearst Castle. Favorite current female architect; Emily Grandstaff-Rice, currently running for president of the AIA.

Thank you for this!! I happen to be both African-American and a woman, so this is a concern I had going into the field!

One female architect that has been very prominent in Brazil, and a great inspiration for me, is Lina Bo Bardi. She left an eternal mark in the Brazilian tradition!

OMG I can't believe she said that to you! The best careers are the ones that come from our hobbies!

Zaha Hadid and Jeanne Gang are two of my favorite architects, hands down.

I have 2 girlfriends who are studying Architecture in Canada and I don't know any guys around my age who are studying Architecture.

Apparently, Zaha Hadid designed the Tokyo Olympics Arena but the design scrapped because it was expensive.

Is it really male-dominated? I didn't use to think that 😂
Having said that, I think, anyone can go in any field...
Much love to you Nat, I love your channel and your inspiring videos 💕💘

I am so glad you spoke about this topic. I recently completed an internship and I experienced sexism. It was something I thought I would not have to face in 2021. To think that people still have those mentalities is disgusting. I was so off put from a lot of the men I worked with. And don't even get me started going to job sites and interacting with contractors - it is very hard to be taken seriously - even when you are a licensed architect ( I am not but my project manager is ).

It’s sad to hear this because unfortunately it’s so true. But I feel like there is a rise of women in architecture, which is great! I’m not sure if it’s just my school but my class has a lot more women than men! I’d say the ratio is about 5:3 if not more

I really sympathize with your thoughts.
I work as an architect in Japan. Even if they have qualifications, many women work in interior design, and most of them have low salaries for male sales staff.
I think there are some companies that trick their employees into thinking their job is not only challenging but also rewarding. However, it’s just their way to exploit their employees.
