My husband said he won by soaking his balsa wood sticks in glue before putting his bridge together.
He is an engineer now.
I said that sounds like cheating, he said it probably was & shrugged.

The last one really needed force! I really enjoyed the simplicity of this video 😇

this is what schools should be like, make learning fun and engaging, make students want to come to school because they like to learn!

Last one is genius. Utilising the tensile strength of spaghetti instead of compressive. Adapting to material strengths

The last one was smart. If only they stabilized the actual part that goes onto the table. It would’ve been amazing. Though I can’t be speaking since I ain’t an engineer 💀

Respect architects the physics and engineering they do is honestly underrated bc people think it’s only art and design!

So my college freshmen year we were tasked to build a bridge with only 50 popsicle sticks and Elmer glue in 2 weeks. We were not allowed to use anything else and no more than 50 sticks. I noticed a little loophole and I asked if there is any limit on how much Elmer’s glue we could use and the instructor said no, we can use as much we want but it may take longer to dry.

So I immediately grabbed some of those free long umbrella bags and smear them with tons of Elmer’s glue, a thick 70cm long and 10cm wide layer of glue. I let it dry for a week. In the mean time I build a bridge and constant drown it with glue every day for the whole week. Adding more and more lagers of glue in the bridge.

One the week passed that the thick sheet of glue on the umbrella bag was fully dry, I peeled off the bag underneath creating a huge 10 x 70cm thick sheet of plastic made of Elmer’s glue. I cut it in half and wrapped the sides of my bridge (the weak points) that needed popsicles sticks to hold.

Then continue adding more glue to the hole thing until pasacalle I had a bridge shape baseball bat. It’s was so strong and hard that my instructor ran out of weights (total of 60lbs) and it barely moved. Even I was able to stand on it (150lbs) and the bridge was 100% fine.

Since then, the instructor start adding a limit to the amount of glue and I got an A+ :)

Sure love loopholes
