Imagine being stuck in space for months, far beyond your planned mission, with no clear return date in sight.
This is the reality for astronauts Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams.
Their journey began on June 5th, when their Boeing Starliner launched for what was supposed to be an eight-day mission.
But soon after, technical issues jeopardized their return to earth.
Now, they find themselves sharing the International Space Station with 7 other astronauts, making for a tight fit, especially at night.
With only 6 private enclosures on the ISS, Wilmore has had to adapt by spending his nights in a sleeping bag.
In addition, they had to ration their clothes, having only packed for a short mission.
But relief came earlier this month with a resupply spacecraft delivering new clothes, fuel and food.
Now, NASA’s latest updates suggest that Wilmore and Williams may not be brought home until February 2025, aboard a future scheduled mission!
