Why Chinese Car Brands are Invading the Philippines | History | PH Auto Industry

I made this video to help you make a better decision when buying Chinese cars by understanding their origins, history, and how they compare to American, European, and Japanese brands.

Filipinos automatically perceive Chinese car brands as being low-quality, unreliable, and having poor build quality, but over the years the auto manufacturing industry in China has progressed rapidly.

The question is, can we now trust Chinese car brands? Are they reliable? Will they last?

In this video, we answer a couple of questions:
➜ Which car brand in the Philippines is leading and winning?
➜ Which Chinese car brands are on the rise?
➜ What’s the history behind each Chinese car brand that is gaining popularity in the Philippines? (Geely, MG, Chery, Foton, Maxus, JAC, GAC, BAIC, Changan, Ssangyong, BYD)
➜ Are Chinese-made cars reliable?
➜ Can we trust Chinese brands and China-made cars?

My father grew up in the 60s and 70s. He said the way people talk about chinese cars now is exactly like how people talked about Japanese cars back then. People talked shit about korean cars too.

BYD are more than a threat to Tesla. They will definitely overtake them. They're the biggest battery maker in the world and at the forefront at battery technology

Japanese and Korean cars started the same. People tend to forget that Japan used to be known for cheap knock offs.

It’s not the Chinese car manufacturers that I’m worried about, it’s the local dealership that is in question. I’m not sure if they are going to stay or not since the competition is cut throat, 1 or 2 of these Chinese car brands will eventually have to shutdown and there goes the aftersales service.

Why is it “Invading” and not just selling like you’d describe if it’s European or American?? That Yellow Peril concept is too compelling right

I'm Filipino-Australian. My MG3 is getting a new engine under warranty at 19 months old and under 30, 000 km. It was the only new car we could buy in early 2023, and I thought careful driving and proper care was all that I needed to make the car function well - I was wrong.

I finally decided to get GAC Gs8 my 1st Chinese brand automobile, it has so much features against other brands and love the look of it. Not sure how reliable it will be but with a 5 year warranty, I think it's time to give them a try.

The Geely Coolray got an amazing review from owners, some of my neighbors have MG cars in their garage, so far they’re loving the brand.

The last part about building trust was spot on. Agreed that these chinese car brands needs to deliver over time before they get the trust of consumers. Perfectly delivered! Subscribed..

those chinese branded cars are NOT invading the philippine market... they are basically filling in the VOID that is there because the philippines have diddly squat of of its own automotive brand. simply put, those chinese branded cars are way better than ZERO of which the philippines can make. chinese companies have R&D and factories of THEIR OWN that outputs cars sold in the global market. those cars are on the roads in the middle east countries which have strict safety standards. reversed engineered or not, those chinese guys were good enough to clone branded cars. tapos pinoys are happy na sa owner type jeeps, thats as far as the pinoy manufacturing can go. sad but true...

Although Geely was established in 1986, they only entered the automotive industry in 1997. Just wanted to note that Geely is a very young company and improved in a very short time.

Edit: Geely also owns 49% of Proton brand.

We have to take to consideration din yung LOCAL Distributor. All Car will break regardless how reliable it is but when LOCAL distro (CASA) is lacking/mediocre/sucks then Good cars like Geely is affected.

Quality is there, no doubt about it, after sales is the biggest concern currently. People have expressed their concerns with the after sales but from what I know, it is slowly getting better especially for the likes MG and Geely. Chery, on the other hand, is being praised because they don't have any problem with after sales. They have the best warranty in the country currently, no other brand comes close. That's why UAAGI is being praised because they are doing so well as Chery's local distributor.

Chery's warranty services tho, crazy good.

Prior to 1970, MMC already sold cars. It's only on that year that the auto division of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries separated and made the Mitsubishi Motors Corporation that we know today. :)
